I worked at Truman Medical Centers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits (medical, mainly). Good 401K company match.

    Cons

Change in SW directors has shifted priorities from meeting patient needs to focusing on strict adherence to arrival time despite having to work 10 hours every day (even if you're salaried, you'd better be there by 8 AM). Very high stress and little recognition of this from SW directors.

PTO must be used for major holidays. Obvious favoritism of a few employees by department directors.

    Advice to Management

Recognize when some employees really give their all. Nobody wants to work for an inflexible dictator. Allow for flexibility--these are highly educated, salaried professionals--or have SWers clock in and compensate them for all the extra hours worked.

    Pros

They have education assistance and the pay is pretty good. Also there is, within the right department with the right people /manager supporting you.

    Cons

Some managers are not very good. Sometimes when wanting to move to a different department it's difficult. Seems like they don't care or meet your needs as an employee. It's also very difficult to get on at Truman. You have to know people or get in contact with the right people to get an interview or to get on at Truman.

    Advice to Management

Stop belittling and micromanaging your employees and let them do their job. Start being more fair to your good employees.

    Pros

Most are talented and dedicated employees and are willing to fulfill their care of patients. They have specialists that are the best and most experienced in the city.

Complex professional and facility arrangement makes rapid and needed change challenging. Others have become ingrained in their way of doing things that worked decades ago.

    Advice to Management
