I have been working at Truman Medical Centers part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I work in the Emergency Department and have never had a "Dull" day.
Great team of doctors and nurses with good communication (there is no filter)
    Great teaching hospital

    Cons

There is a lot of busy work and frustrating patients.
There is legitimate danger working in the department
It has been known to get pretty stressful

    Advice to Management

Choose what is important to improving patient outcomes and fight important battles as opposed to trivial problems. Hold all employees to the same standards and the turn over rate would improve.

    Pros

Visionary leadership, compassionate clinical staff, supportive colleagues, living their mission and doing it well.

    Cons

Director-heavy creates hierarchy in an already bureaucratic industry. In pockets exist the occasional director not qualified for their role.

Hold directors accountable for measures of productivity and throughput.

I have been working at Truman Medical Centers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working as an administrative leader directly with physician directors in graduate medical education and being able to consistently improve processes and maximize potential.

    Cons

Professional development is encouraged, but advancement and management or succession training does not consistently happen. I see employees leave for other opportunities, and then get hired back after they have progressed elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Always be training someone in your department who could step into your role when you leave or retire. You will retain more employees.
