I have been working at Truman State University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I love the flexibility of my job, my colleagues, and the benefits of working in academe.

    Cons

Working for a public university ties budgets and salaries to state funding. This is a challenge in regards to obtaining salaries that are commensurate to national averages in your field. The additional benefits and culture of this campus has kept me here, but that's not to say that salary levels haven't been a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Actively seek out opportunities for your staff to learn and grow. Employ effective management practices to keep your workers engaged and happy.

I have been working at Truman State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As a part-time on-campus job for students, this position helped me in my personality development. I started out shy and generally found difficult to communicate with others. Over time, I developed communication skills and confidence. With a caring supervisor around all the time to help me out, working in this position was a smooth sail for me.

    Cons

Coworkers can be immature and unprofessional sometimes, causing inconvenience to the entire team. This position requires patience, cooperation among the members. Not all employees can maintain that all the time.

    Advice to Management

    Pay raise please, if possible.

    Pros

Truman is a pretty relaxed environment. Some departments have more flexibility than others, but overall it has a good working environment. Admissions Counselors can have a good amount of flexibility, especially if you travel.

    Cons

Limited mobility for most Admissions positions. You'll likely need to work in the office for at least 5 years before seeing a title change.

    Advice to Management

Create a scheduled plan for advancement. Allow admissions counselors (especially those interested in making higher ed a career) to partake in application and scholarship review.

I worked at Truman State University (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, friendly supervisor, and enjoyable work atmosphere. The actual work was straightforward and easy, no huge challenges.

    Cons

Truman State University doesn't let you sing or dance on the job. So i had to call Kevin Bacon to get the stick out of their butts

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the sticks in your butts and let me dance. I love to dance, especially in public with lots of other people
