    Pros

Co-Workers were wonderful! Enjoyed the delivery and pick up of mail.

    Cons

Had to pick up trash from the branches & drive all day with smelly garbage in car! No full time!

    Advice to Management

Put dumpsters at each branch so they can throw their garbage out!

I worked at TrustCo Bank Corp NY full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Experience, schedule, relaxed environment if you lucky enough you can get hired in a branch were your manager is the awesome and doesn't micro managed.

    Cons

Horrible pay, no room for improvement, no raises if you do it's about .10-.15 cents a year. Company does not communicate well with updates procedures or changes in policy. If you need help it's hard to find someone to help you because they dnt pick up phones and half the time people are new due to the high turn over rate in part time tellers and assistant managers so be prepare to teach yourself.

I have been working at TrustCo Bank Corp NY full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great way to build your customer service skills, meet new people, see a wide variety of diverse people, while building trust and close relationships with customers. They promote from within so there's possibilities to go up from part-time teller all the way up to branch manager and higher if you choose.

    Cons

Unfortunately high turn-over rate resulting in little coverage for managers to network and do marketing outside the branches and also very poor hands-on training. This company heavily relies on in-branch training which can be a good or bad thing depending on the manager that trains you. Patience is rare. Branch managers don't get paid nearly enough as they should for how much knowledge is required for them to know.

    Advice to Management

TRAINING! Extend the training period from a week to three weeks to ensure those that are hired live up to the tasks they signed up for. The reason there's such a high turn-over is because you're only teaching them 25% of what they actually need to be learning.

I have been working at TrustCo Bank Corp NY full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours, holiday pay, good starter job.

    Cons

Trustco is, well, cheap. They underpay for travel expenses and are notorious for low-balling salaries. On the teller side there is outdated equipment, and in administration it is clear that a few of the departments lack competency.

    Advice to Management

Open up the check book if you want quality employees, equipment, and customer service. The turnover here is horrible, and when you don't pay much more than a retail gig it is easy to see why.

    Pros

Easy "in" to banking, little experience required
Good resume builder for jobs at other companies
    Some great customers and employees

    Cons

Terrible pay (lowest in the industry), which leads to high turnover
    Technologically outdated
    Managers have little flexibility
Outdated systems cause unnecessary delays and frustrate customers
Very rigid fee policies leave little room for managers to heed reasonable customer requests

    Advice to Management

Increase pay if you want to retain talent! Trust branch employees to make reasonable decisions

    Current Employee - Assistant Manager

I have been working at TrustCo Bank Corp NY (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Products, very competitive for a small bank

    Cons

Poor Management, even poorer training for new hires. Need to decentralize and form regional management.

    Advice to Management

Better, more robust training. Really put a curriculum together and follow MBO. (Management By Objective) Separate management more because Upstate is not Downstate.
