I have been working at Truwest Credit Union full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The salaries are above the market and you cant beat the benefits. Ive been here 8 years.

    Cons

Promotes from within but some areas have very litte growth. There could be more opportunities to go outside the box as it is a conservative atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

More opportunities to cross train would be much appreciated.

I worked at Truwest Credit Union full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This was one of the best companies that I have worked for. Great, small town, laid back atmosphere. Everyone knew each other, and you didn't feel like just a number. Actually saw the difference your job made.

    Cons

Quarrels between departments made it feel like high school sometimes. Departments focused on the monetary value more than the long term in a lot of instances. Stated that we were "paid to support the equipment" regardless of how many issues we knew it would have. Also need more employees in various departments to support some of the workload.

    Advice to Management

Would like to see management actually take the employees opinions seriously instead of asking for them as a formality. They are the ones supporting it and know what may be best. The point is to talk it out. Don't be so quick to dismiss and listen to your employees. Retention would go up 10x fold.

I worked at Truwest Credit Union full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay. Friendly Co workers for the most part. Decent operating hours. Small company feel. Easy to get to know other people.

    Cons

Petty squabbles between departments. Little ability to communicate concerns, and when you can, it falls on deaf ears. A lot of processes are inefficient.

    Advice to Management

Support your managers. Allow them to manage their departments. Trust the people you hire.

    -Outdated programs/procedures

    -Micromanaging (Call Center)

    Advice to Management

Micromanaging does not boost team moral.

I worked at Truwest Credit Union full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They strived to promote from within the company. Many of the management/upper management individuals lead by example. They promoted a meaningful corporate culture which you don't see a lot with organizations this size.

    Cons

I did observe favoritism while at the credit union stemming down from upper management. There was also a higher-than-average employee turnaround which indicated to me that there was a lack of employee job satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employee retention, promoting/hiring people that are the best candidates rather than the "favored" candidates.

I have been working at Truwest Credit Union full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company really strives for a "family" type of dynamic throughout the whole credit union [regardless of position held]. There are a lot of team building activities and everyone is treated equally.

    Cons

The only complaint I have about this company is that there is not a lot of room for advancement. Also, the merit increases are a percentage, and are issued once a year to everyone in the credit union. In other words, I could work my butt off and my coworker could do absolutely nothing and we would get the same percentage increase. I shouldn't complain about getting a wage increase, but there really is no incentive to go above and beyond.

    Advice to Management

Consider offering more opportunity for raises.

    Pros

Employees were awesome, management was good, pay wasn't bad. Bonuses and pay raises annually.

    Cons

There were no real cons to working at this place. Maybe a good ole boys type atmosphere, but it wasn't to bad. Loyalty was given to those that had been there a while.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. This was a good company to work for that genuinely cared about its employees and members. No real advice needed.

I have been working at Truwest Credit Union part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Once you get all the skilld down it's an easy and laidback job, referral goals are reasonable compared to other credit unions and banks. Not as pressured towards sales and allows for a friendly environment

    Cons

Out dated systems and unnecessary processes that need improvement, such as the website and technology used. Training is excessively boring for 2 weeks.

    Advice to Management

Improve the technology, such as programs used for teller work. Also, being clear on what department handles what, is needed. No one knows who does what.
