I worked at Tucows full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some great people here and the location is charming. Ergonomic workstations and an hour lunch. Starting salary is also very competitive.

    Cons

It's gone corporate and is little more than your average call-centre. Micromanaged to the minute, abstract expectations, unwritten policies and dated resources. Top-heavy work environment with senior team members and management micromanaging to compensate for the lack of validity, necessity, for their positions.

    Advice to Management

Culture death is often masked by increasing corporate bureaucracy. A quote comes to mind "Don't pee on my leg and tell me its raining" - at least be upfront about what you are, not what you were. I imagine things started going downhill after the IPO...I harbour no ill-will, just profound disappointment.

    Pros

Small company with access to decision makers.

    Cons

Employees don't have a say in anything. Feedback is recommended but not considered. Employees are treated like they don't have a life outside of the workplace. Customers first and employees maybe after.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and treat them better than you treat customers.

I worked at Tucows full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some terrific team members; very knowledgeable not just about technology. Photography, cycling, food, health, exercise. A very sharing community. Still in touch with many of my past colleagues. Summer and year end parties are a blast. Good health benefits.

    Cons

Management's direction is often misguided. Even HR has frightful turnover.
Management plays hurtful head games: to avoid paying severance to employees they've decided to dismiss, they start giving aggressively negative feedback in an effort to get them to resign. No recognition of employee effort.

    Advice to Management

Stop starving divisions of resources. Allow divisions to provide input into their own direction. Show employees some respect.
