I worked at Tucson Jewish Community Center full-time

    Pros

Free membership. Half off childcare. Discounted program rates.

    Cons

It's a non-profit, so the pay isn't wonderful. However, they try to make up for it with other benefits. The biggest issue is that they expect their already overworked employees to "volunteer" their time for events. This could easily turn into a 60-70 hour work week for several weeks in a row.

  3. "Nice People--Unorganized & Wasteful"

I worked at Tucson Jewish Community Center as a contractor

    Pros

The JCC employs some very nice people. Friendly staff and a team environment.

    Cons

Wasteful. Processes and procedures aren't efficient and creates waste.

I have been working at Tucson Jewish Community Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The staff is great! Everyone is happy to help each other and you feel part of a team.

    Cons

The management is out of touch with their employees, especially those performing direct service. They think it is ok to pay direct service staff $9-$10 an hour because the professions are not known to be lucrative. However, they do not seem to understand the lifestyle that comes along with such low pay. There are employees on food stamps.

    Advice to Management

Consider the disparity in pay between management and direct service staff. Research a truly livable wage in Tucson.

Ken Light is no longer CEO, he retired in 2013.

    Pros

It is easy to stay at a place like this for quite a while. They do treat their employees well.

    Cons

They pay is low and sometimes people are hired for positions they are not qualified for. Needs a better hiring process and training program.

    Advice to Management

Possibly make it so the departments are not in as much of a silo situation. The people in different departments should be able to interact better.

    Pros

Great mission statement. Beautiful building and beautiful campus. Interesting art exhibits for the public. Excellent film festival. Has potential to be truly great community gathering place.

    Cons

Pres/CEO is a jock with limited intelligence & no sincere connection to the JCC's mission. He has no vision about what the JCC could be and how it could be truly great. He puts sports above culture every time ~ STRONGLY DISCOURAGED the formation of a library (which was to be run by volunteers).

    Advice to Management

Replace CEO with a visionary, passionate LEADER. Current CEO is not respected by staff (in fact, he is ridiculed for his "lightweight" insincerity about important issues. He is a lightweight by all standards.
