I worked at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Better compensation than most full-time positions and definitely competitive within equity research space.
    - Great exposure to energy space and the different segments (E&P, OFS, Midstream, Downstream, Power/Utilities).

    Cons

    - Less focused on developing and investing in talent and more focused on interns doing miscellaneous tasks like aggregating and pulling data.
    - Avg. 6am - 8 or 9pm + hours on weekends w/ informal 'face time' requirements: obliged to hang around until everyone on your team leaves even if you don't have work to do.
    - Little communication on basics such as: regular working hours, who to report to, and projects.
    - Didn't get the feeling people working there really enjoyed what they did.

    Advice to Management

Take the equity research intern program as seriously as IB if you intend to recruit people from the program. And structure the program to include benchmarks or objectives interns are expected to reach. Otherwise, the internship lacks focus and purpose.

    "Great deaflow"

    Pros

Great deaflow and exposure to multiple subsectors of energy. Significant exposure to multiple aspects of a transaction due to fairly lean teams.

    Cons

Culture a bit on the fratty side but all around great people to work with. Hours were pretty bad but it comes standard with the banking territory.
