    I worked at Tulane University

    Pros

The weather is great is New Orleans. Most of Tulane's employees are nice and very approachable. At Tulane, there are countless opportunities fro advancement.

    Cons

The crime in New Orleans is pretty rampant. The cost of living can be very expensive. The public school system is below average.

    I worked at Tulane University

    Pros

Good students, good colleagues, prestige and optimism for the future. Fair salary and benefits. Flexibility and independence as a researcher. Some support for conference travel.

    Cons

New Orleans is not a great place to live. The city as a whole is recovering very slowly from the hurricane and it still has a lot of crime.

I have been working at Tulane University

    Pros

Tulane tuition reimbursement. Tulane is a cultural hive and employees are always granted access. Tulane name has pull in New Orleans.

    Cons

Boring work; no support for innovation; very little collaboration between departments; poor management skills displayed by immediate and ultimate supervisor.

I have been working at Tulane University

    Pros

Excellent benefits--good health care, flexible time off, and free classes. You also have access to discounted membership to the Reily Recreation Center, and access to the university libraries. The work environment is generally positive and supportive, with very few high stress positions.

    Cons

There isn't a lot of room for advancement with a lot of the staff positions. The pay typically isn't as good as it is at universities in other cities, but this is probably the result of pay in New Orleans just being generally lower than other cities. Raises are given annually, but the percentage raise you get is pretty low.

    I worked at Tulane University

    Pros

It's the biggest employer in New Orleans (at least when I worked there), so the benefits are relatively good. Beautiful campus. Good location, and a diverse work community.

    Cons

Lack of senior leadership & communication down to staff; poor compensation; few career advancement opportunities. Raises were seemingly untied to performance - as a non-manager, count on making just the minimum 3-4% raise every year regardless of how hard you work.

I worked at Tulane University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

New Orleans is a great city

    Cons

There is a weird "visiting professor" culture at Tulane. The administration in my department had major issues.
