I have been working at Turf Valley Resort full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have worked at Turf Valley Resort for over 10 years and have found the ability to progress in my career at a very steady pace. This is a family owned resort that allows you to truly reach your potential. I have seen members of the staff progress in operations from a line level employee to management, others have gone from front desk to accounting to sales. If you work hard opportunities are available to you. One of the biggest benefits to working at this resort is the work/home balance. It is something ownership prides themselves on making sure everyone has.

    Cons

None that is worth mentioning. To many pros that I fail to even focus on any cons.

    Advice to Management

There is a great deal of employee appreciation in this company. Through employee luncheons, employee of the month program, holiday parties, Turf Talk recognition, etc. I would always recommend keeping this apart of the culture.

I have been working at Turf Valley Resort part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Discount for rooms and food and day spa. Supervisor is fantastic! Can be fun and rewarding at times.

    Cons

Gratuity is not given to bartenders or servers. Tips are scarce at times. Not enough hours available to bartenders for work.

    Advice to Management

Equipment seriously needs an overhaul. Carts for transporting equipment to bars are broken and in need of serious repairs.

    Pros

Beautiful setting, ongoing improvements to the facility.

    Cons

Extremely clickish. I don't play office politics and there are many a closed-door sessions and power-play scenarios that have occurred within my first year. Sure there are a number of employees that have been at the property for a long period of time, but there is a contingent of core managers/directors that conspire when they dislike someone personally. Your job should be performance and professionalism based, rather than popularity with the "in" crowd.

Also, the WORST benefits package that I have ever experienced, anywhere.

This is a faux-family atmosphere. Don't drink the Kool-Aid that's laced with selfish intent!

    Advice to Management

Favoritism based on clicks & longevity and lack of open communication, will keep you from progressing.

I have been working at Turf Valley Resort full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Turf Valley's has employee's who have worked for the company for as many 35 years. (I have worked here for 16 years) The average tenure on the Executive Committee (EC) is: 15 years. After 15 years, one would think that the team is complacent which is farther from the truth. The EC team works just as hard today as they did yesterday. Turf Valley is comprised of full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. Our seasonal employee's come back year after year. Turf Valley truly does have a wonderful staff that makes you feel like family.

    Cons

Telecommuting is not allowed during inclement weather.

    Advice to Management

Increase training/seminars that are not 'in-house'.

I have been working at Turf Valley Resort full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have been working over 26 years at Turf Valley, I have seen many employees come and go. We have a lot of "be-backers", those who leave for greener pastures and find the pastures aren't always as green as Turf Valleys. Turf Valley provides a place for your very first job, your first job out of college, part-time work while you are still in school, It is a family-owned business that provides a learning environment, a place to grow, a place to feel at home. They care about their customers and they care about their team members.

    Cons

I cannot think of any cons that would warrant mentioning.

    Advice to Management

Continue to engage the staff via training and employee betterment programs.

I have been working at Turf Valley Resort full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have worked at Turf Valley for approximately 2 years and absolutely love it. The environment is friendly, almost like family. It is a good culture and there are opportunities to advance. There are several employee activities each year which are fun. We get different perks too, discounts on room, spa, golf.

    Cons

There are some challenges with upgrades to the property but a lot of improvement has been made over the past couple of years.

    Advice to Management

Pete Mangione, General Manager, made it a point to know my name and speaks to me when he seems me. He takes pride in Turf Valley and you can definitely tell that he wants the employees to be happy while they work there. Otherwise, just continue to make improvements to the property.

    Cons

Managers are unbelievably stuck up and think the world revolves around them. I had a white stripe on my black shoes and was told I had to get new shoes or get fired

    Advice to Management
