    Pros

Turner is a great company that rewards people for innovation. Furthermore, the company does a good job of hiring and promoting from within - so from a career development perspective, the opportunities are quite strong.

    Cons

That said - they are the only game in town in Atlanta. So, if you are in the industry in Los Angeles or New York, you will miss the networking opportunities to learn from others outside your company in your industry. And, if you are laid off - you are likely going to have to relocate. Location also plays a factor in compensation ... which is lower than the industry averages (even in New York / California)

    Advice to Management

Revisit compensation and foster more communication among departments / Time Warner divisions

    Pros

It's a great work environment where people genuinely enjoy the company of others and take pride in what they do. The company has a pro-active approach to giving back to the community and they benefits/perks that come with working at Turner are great.

    Cons

As with most large companies, cross-communication is difficult to achieve and sometimes bureaucracy is an issue.

    Advice to Management

Overall senior management does a good job of setting the goals and priorities for the company however while it is openly admitted that the company needs to work together more collaboratively, there is little more thank talk actually being done.

    Pros

Great company-- and one in it for the long haul. No short term budget cutting b.s., they put their money where their mouths are. Unlike many broadcasters and cable companies, they "get it." I'm not a "diverse" person, ok-- I'm a white male-- but Turner believes IMPLICITLY that not only is diversity good for people, good for minorities-- that a diverse creates a climate of creativity and innovation...and creativity and innovation will continue Turner's success. how frickin' cool is that? My own department is fairly diverse, there are definitely more women than men, but there are also people of many skin colors, nationalities and even countries. There's a woman from Turkey! Amazing.

    Cons

Not many, to be honest. Atlanta's not all that and a bag of potato chips, for sure...but that's about it. The only other "bad" thing I could say, if it even qualifies as "bad," per se, is that the two main Atlanta campuses (Techwood and CNN) are pretty disconnected both geographically and psychologically. It's too bad because both have a lot to offer eachother in the promotion of good ideas. Unfortunately, each "side" feels and acts superior to the other. Each definitely has its own success and its own advantages. If they just came together more, the potential for incredible sucess would be astronomical.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. And maybe buy us all iPhones since we had such a great year. That's not too much to ask, is it?

    Pros

The benefits are outstanding! I have been able to work with some outstanding people that I constantly am learning from.

    Cons

As an administrative professional, I have been very lucky to work for managers who recognize the value that I bring to the table with my skill set. However, there are still some managers at Turner who view their admins as "just secretaries."

    Advice to Management

Encourage your direct reports to encourage their direct reports to recognize the jobs that their assistants do and be willing to allow them to develop their skills through education and involvement around the company.

    Pros

Very smart people who are passionate about what they do. Collaborative culture. Great perks and benefits. Exciting industry. Growth opportunities.

    Cons

Bureaucratic in certain areas of the company. Individuals are excused for their bad behavior based on their postion in the company. Compensation is not the greatest...bonuses are very low by industry standards.

    Advice to Management

Implement zero tolerance policy for "employees behaving badly" Too often, the jerks are excused for their bad behavior...sending the wrong message and putting the company at risk. Don't be jerks!

    Pros

Very horizontal structure. In other words, you can quickly advance as the company has a heritage of building businesses around good ideas. These ideas can come from any where in the company.

    Cons

Somewhat limited by corporate structure of Time Warner. The environment is one that takes fewer risks than in its "heyday" when they were launching new businesses right and left.

    Advice to Management

Tap into existing employees ... lot's of institutional knowledge that goes unheard.

    Pros

The projects are really interesting and the benefits are fantastic. The company is very supportive of its employees. One of my bosses really understood work / life balance, and as a whole the company does too.

    Cons

Turner is slow at adopting new technologies they could be more innovative. Some departments are inflexible about certain policies such as telecommuting.

    Advice to Management

Foster more innovation. Allow more flexible schedules. Encourage folks to be more entrepreneurial. Be more green.
