I worked at Turner Construction full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits. Huge company with a lot of influence in the industry.

    Cons

Turner has quite a bit of backstabbing and pointing fingers, by upper management, to divert any issues away from them in which they were totally responsible for. Its a corporate company.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your subordinates that are closest to the issues and back them up.

    Pros

Laid back atmosphere with a large focus on Sustainability.
    Fantastic travel and lodging accommodations.
    HR fairly attentive.
Oakland office very female centric, with a strong GM with a Heavy Civil background.

    Cons

Professional boundaries were crossed multiple times.
One of my interviewers was not only late, but showed up glassy eyed and smelling of alcohol.
If you are interested in renewables, this is not the company for you. Even though they have a strong element of sustainability in their culture, not interested in moving towards renewables at this time.

    Advice to Management

Pay closer attention to working professional relationships. Question actions instead of ignoring or put under the rug. Don't punish those who wish to advance their education by providing limited monetary assistance.

I worked at Turner Construction (More than 8 years)

    Pros

401K contribution, good pay, decent work relationships with co-workers, Christmas parties, decent bonuses, office location is a plus in Nashville.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement. They tend to have a seniority system. You must put your time in to advance. Layoffs occur from time to time when work is low.

    Advice to Management

Listen to all workers on ways to improve, not just employees that have been there for 15-20 years. There is a attitude of "We are Turner". There are several good construction companies. Look at your competition, improve and be the best. Lose the high and mighty attitude.

I worked at Turner Construction full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Alot of training, easy access to SMEs, willing to grant alot of responsibilities to young engineers, people are great

    Cons

Pay is low, little transparency to salary across levels, easy to get pigeon holed into one type of role, don't value individuals with higher education, lacks diversity

    Advice to Management

Increase pay or bonus for high performers, invest in folks with higher education to take on roles that add value to the company (too much focus on business unit performance

    Pros

Great benefits, lots of amazing people to work with, always new projects to work on with very little down time.

    Cons

Upward mobility based on years of employment as opposed to merit, management is not in touch with younger staff, experience is largely depending on whose team you are on

    Advice to Management

Younger staff does not see the value is sacrificing their desires for that of the greater good. We will move onto different roles. Listen to the staff and make the moves. There is always someone else to fill the position left behind.
