I have been working at Tutor Perini full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

They really pay well, it's the only reason I am still here.

    Cons

To upper management you are only a number to be discarded after they use and abuse you. The philosophy is to screw the owner over at every turn and then go to court to get paid. You will be lied to and asked to lie for them almost daily. Every problem on the job is a subcontractors or the owners fault. If something goes wrong, they are quick to place blame on anyone but themselves. They are routinely featured... on the engineering catastrophes TV show. Just look at the City Center in Vegas They will fly in the CEO's golden boy in to create chaos and get the owner mad, than send him away and proceed to blame everyone else for any issues on the job. Expenses take a minimum of 3 to 6 months to reimburse expenses. For a billion dollar company, they can't pay their bills on time, just ask anyone that has ever been a subcontractor for them

    Pros

None- a totally screwed up company. I am surprised they are still in business. Top reaganal management are consumed with themselves.

    Cons

Upon joining them I knew there was no way I would stay. They want all and give little the negative culture they breed is sickening. Upper management has established pets and go into protection mode quickly, they stress production as long as there pets are not utilized or held accountable.

    Advice to Management

Pull your heads out and take a deep breath of reality. You might be a large company that gets work but your goal should be to be an organization that has a positive culture and employee are proud to work for.

    Pros

There are no pros, except a handful of the Carpenters are real good people to be around.

    Cons

Engineers fresh out of college who think they know your job better than you do. Upper management is clueless and should be walking in pampers, or strung out

    Advice to Management

Before you ruin someones life but moving them 2000 miles across the country and firing them before the first day, maybe you should keep a shorter leash on the superintendents and not let them lie about wages and compensation, moving expenses, hours, benefits, and on top of that let them drive 6000 miles no work for 2 weeks trying to make a breaking bad episode

    Pros

Less then 1 hour drive from anywhere in Los Angeles.

    Cons

Upper management, executives included, mentally abuse the employees. They insult people based on their appearance, happenings in their personal lives, and any little issue is immediately made to be entirely your fault and a reflection of your incompetence. The people who work at Corporate seem to be universally unhappy and arguing at work is not uncommon. The office is drab and depressing. The buildings are... surrounded with barbed wire. Employees avoid helping others. Some upper managers are incompetent. They seem to lack the general knowledge and skills required for their position, but they will take opportunities to make you feel inferior and helpless.

    Advice to Management

You don't pay enough to make people miserable. Other companies that work people less, have better facilities, and treat employees with respect are paying more.

I have been working at Tutor Perini

    Pros

employees are very professional and competent

    Cons

Upper management currently (2009) is not interested in taking care of their people. It is a concensus that this management practice is being passed down by the CEO.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your middle managers to find out who is worth their salt and compensate them accordingly. This should by based by division and by which one is making money. Sometimes people look at things too closely and don't get the big picture, Perini Tutor is currently looking at things too broadly and aren't seeing who their money makers are.
