I worked at Tutoring Club part-time for less than a year

    Pros

I had a wonderful boss and co-workers from different walks of life who were willing to work around my school schedule. Very supportive environment.

    Cons

Not open very late, so getting hours in during the week can be difficult if you're in school. Perfect for a part-time student job, though!

I worked at Tutoring Club part-time

    Pros

The pay is good, but that's about it.

    Cons

I am only speaking for the Tutoring Club in Birmingham, AL, so I do not know how the other one are. I have worked many part time jobs in the past couple years while I am in college, but this has by far been the worst experience. I also have prior experience in tutoring such as at Mathnasium. My worst complaint is of the owner/manager and her blatant disrespect for the students. During my training she talked poorly of the students saying one boy "acts and looks autistic because he does math in his head before I'm done teaching him." That comment almost made me quit before I even began. She obviously does not care about the students and their success, but seems to only be in this to make money. She also talked poorly in front of students saying things like "They have no idea what they are doing," in a very demeaning tone. One of the students I was working with even complained to me about how she has been forced to do the same coursework for the last two years which showed since she completed all the work within about 20 minutes. At Mathnasium if that happens you tell the manager and she would give the student more challenging work but that was not the case here, because again she just did not care and it showed. She also advised me to not even go over all the problems they missed that it really did not matter and just rushed me to give them more worksheets. The other employees were also not helpful at all. At Mathnasium all tutors were there to help each other and the manager made that a point to us because of course when you are of college age or older there will be some concepts you simply don't remember from years ago that you learned in middle school. If you did not know something you were advised to ask another tutor if they could help when they were not busy because at Mathnasium at the end of the day the student's success was most important. However, at Tutoring Club when I forgot a minor concept in Geometry and asked another employee for help she was extremely rude and not willing to help at all, and in the end the student was the one that got hurt. So, if you care about students and their success do not work here. Also,

I have been working at Tutoring Club part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Part time hours leave the evening and morning open if you're a night owl you won't be effected by early mornings.

    Cons

No insurance or health benefits since it's impossible to become full-time without being a director of a center.

    I worked at Tutoring Club

    Pros

Great for students, easy going work environment, fun atmosphere, they work with your class schedule and availabilities, I enjoyed working here

    Cons

I worked as a tutor, which was only a part time position as it was an after school tutoring center. It isn't a full time career.
