    Pros

100% remote Unlimited PTO Company holidays—2 weeks off at end of year and 1 week off during July, with other generous time off for holidays sprinkled about

    Cons

(Going by what I experienced) Horrible onboarding, no training, no support to help learn team tools. There is now an engineering success team that created an onboarding wiki, but that wasn’t available when I started.

    Ineffective

Nov 13, 2022 - Vice President - Technology in San Francisco, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Twitch has the potential to create an innovative live streaming platform. There are employees who are capable and who I would call "bright spots" within the company to drive better technology across all areas - advertising, discoverability, community and safety tools. Twitch has all of the tools or pieces of the puzzle to help creators monetize effectively and create a living with UGC.

    Cons

Twitch's leadership/executive team is mostly men who slow down growth and innovation due to their inability to truly collaborate with each other and their egos. The Twitch Exec team cannot seem to lead the company into one direction as there is constant back channeling and toxic behavior. There is more enjoyment of arguing a point than moving innovation forward. The company moves slow for a "startup." They also rely more on Twitter than data points on what direction to innovate - perhaps that is because many of the more seasoned leaders are from Twitter. There is a culture of "not invented here" versus a growth mindset which is unfortunate. Most people are Twitch are burned out because they no longer find joy as the focus on what points they are going to argue based on the whim of the founder versus creating community first experience. It is challenging to work here for a women since Sara Clemens left as she was the only adult or leader in the room - look at all the capable women leaders who left.

Great work life balance and a vision I care about

Oct 11, 2022 - Full-Stack Engineer in San Francisco, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Super flexible work life balance and generous hours within reason, at least as an engineer. If you like the platform (as I do) it feels great to be building things for it and seeing the community appreciate your work. Very flexible and supportive remote work place.

    Cons

Collaboration between teams can be a bit difficult and product vision a bit muddied. Enjoyment and day-to-day experience in the workplace seems to vary greatly team to team. High profile decisions can blindside/upset employees and community alike. Very young (slightly entitled) work force.
