I have been working at TxDOT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Laid back environment, family oriented, benefits, compensation, advancement opportunities, tuition reimbursement*, training opportunities, wellness programs, biometric screenings, wellness fairs, performance leave granted, health insurance paid during retirement (min of 10 years of service before retiring), employee assistance programs, discount programs

    Cons

10% is automatically deducted and put away for your retirement. They match it, this may be a con to some people, I love it, because I otherwise would not be setting myself up for a successful future.
The tuition reimbursement is mainly for engineers, I think it would behoove them to extend that

    Advice to Management

Management is good, I have no problems with my supervisor. It is a large organization, so of course there may be one or two bad apples in the bunch, however, there are outlets for employees to work the problems out, without any ramifications.
TxDOT has a lot of policies and procedures, as it is a State Agency, Management does a great job of sticking to those, so that they and their employees stay out of trouble. Some may not like that.

I have been working at TxDOT full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, variety of positions open at lower levels, good training, good benefits, good work life balance for most positions

    Cons

Controlling and criticizing management in Dallas District. Favoritism in Dallas District rampant. Mid and upper level job vacancies often decided before job posting - creating bad morale, rumors, etc.

    Advice to Management

Dallas District Admin: Be more open minded in hiring process. Quit openly criticizing employees. Don't judge someone over a mistake or two.

I have been working at TxDOT full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Job has plenty of holidays. It has good insurance and good retirement. Not much pressure to perform since it is not profit driven.

    Cons

Pay not as much as private sector. Really that is the only down side to working there, but some on the pros make up for it.
