I have been working at TxDOT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Slow paced and great place to learn and build yourself up. Family oriented atmosphere. Training is great and everyday is a new day to learn.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive unless you have a good amount of experience. The training is great....but that is when they actually send you to it.

I worked at TxDOT (Less than a year)

    Pros

TxDOT is a very established company, the state takes care of their employees, and I enjoyed being split between the office and the field. The environment was good and my supervisor was very cool and helpful.

    Cons

During the summer, the time I was interning, the hours can be long and though it was not too bad you do spend a lot of time commuting, most of our areas job sites were about an hour and a half away and driving back and forth was a big portion of the day.

I have been working at TxDOT full-time

    Pros

Great learning programs, lots of classes, involvement in large projects and great place to learn overall.

    Cons

Rotation program not working, slow pace (this could be a pro depending on the person)

    Advice to Management

Start making the rotation program work again, this was one of the most attractive features when coming in.

I worked at TxDOT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most co-workers are very professional, great pay, lots to learn. As long as you don't have to work with a Financial Analyst/CPA at the Greer Building than you should be good.

    Cons

If you get paired with a horrible supervisor than start looking for a new job. I would have wanted to stay longer, but a very close co-worker/supervisor was horrible with people skills. She was not the norm, but I couldn't get away from her fast enough. People actually felt bad for me when they found out I had to work with her.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone sounds convincing when they say the sky is falling doesn't mean it is. Also, if someone has horrible people skills don't give them a subordinate.

    Pros

    Paid Intern
    Great people
Interns are treated as if they actual employees

    Cons

Interns will have to do the jobs that actual employees don't have time to get to.

    Pros

Gained experience in construction methods and materials testing as well as construction management. Was never asked to do anything i wasnt comfortable with. Got to see a lot of stuff being built. You dont have to worry about being taken advantage of or being given reponsibilities that an intern shouldnt have, which can definitely happen at design companies. also you get overtime

    Cons

You have to spend some time in the summer heat

    Advice to Management

    great internship experience
