I worked at Tyco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Maybe JCI will clean out the cob web covered ultra- right wing ancient management that use threats to motivate.

    Cons

Good old (White) boys club.. Customers VERY dissatisfied because not enough team to perform projects on time. Cut throat managers.

    Advice to Management

    Retire

    Pros

Decent pay, benefits company vehicle. Work with great people. The field techs have a great bond.

    Cons

Upper Management is way out of touch with the field techs, sales is supposed to engineer jobs with minimal technical skills and training. Which results in many mistakes that the Installers/Service have to address. Upper Management does not help get work done...they wait till there's a fire then they put it out...oh wait...the field techs put them out. They claim safety is a priority. We all know that is a front because they continually put techs in bad situations.

    Advice to Management

Upper Management - get your hands dirty. Spend a year out in the field by yourself and see how you do. YOU WILL FAIL! A retired engineer and trainer told us that if we were smart we would find a new employer. Customers have low or no respect for managment.

There have been valuable personnel that has walked out of this company. No respect from upper management.

I worked at Tyco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits if you can get through the red tape of doing your job. Metrics have driven many to just not care about the real job (taking care of the customer) and focus on making them correct.

    Cons

Constant harping on metrics, not enough support from office and management. Treats employees like children and don't seem to trust the people doing the job.

    Advice to Management

Close up shop the culture you have cultivated will go no where and you will continue to lose employees. OR change your view on employees and make them valued and if you ask for an opinion from them at least take them at their word.

I worked at Tyco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very few pros but, the insurance is decent and offers HSA account which is helpful at times. Not many people at the Carol Stream location.

    Cons

They don't distribute work fairly, management is really bad there and will try to degrade you. When review time comes the the boss there will find every excuse not to give you any kind of raise because you haven't been there long enough. When you bring up a noticeable problem at work you seem to be red flagged and now watched for anything you do.

    Advice to Management

Learn to be a good leader and reward people that actually work and help.

    Pros

Fast Paced and challenging team environment. Excellent and approachable training staff. World wide based company with attractive over seas options

    Cons

Management lies about staffing levels. Critically understaffed in all departments. Rampant Nepotism and favoritism based on cliques. High school, irresponsible atmosphere. Caustic work environment. Sexual Discrimination.

    Advice to Management

Quit lying, we know what's coming. Get your resumes in order and practice your skills in dodging the law suits for unpaid labor and sexual discrimination and harassment.
