    Pros

Easy to get hired, not a difficult job, lots of opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Underpaid for doing multiple roles, management needs better training, managers play favorites. Management does not have an open door policy. Management does not work towards Tycos motto. No integrity at all with management.

    Advice to Management

Show a little compassion for the employees, they are human too not robots. Hire people who want to work not who are there only for a paycheck.

I worked at Tyco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was a good opportunity to learn and take on additional responsibilities. The constant change within the organization created career paths.

    Cons

The culture was very tough. It was a decentralized organization that had a desire to create a culture of continuous improvement and also pivot to R&D simultaneously.

    Advice to Management

Create a better vehicle to communicate with the field.

I worked at Tyco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get a great overview of the Fire / Life Safety market working in this role. You are working with all areas of the business - sales, service, installation and billing. The role really requires you to be a self-starter and you have to have an interest in the construction market if you want to be successful.

    Cons

From a sales perspective, this is an absolutely horrible job. Here's why: you are given a target to hit each for the fiscal year, and it's broken down monthly. So let's say your goal is $120,000 for the year - that means you must sell $10,000 repairs a month to hit your commission targets. BUT you DO NOT get paid unless the work is completed! So you can exceed your targets every month, but if the work can't be completed you do not get anything. In my district I was constantly dealing with this because our service department was not fully staffed and higher management would not approve requisitions for new hires. We were constantly behind and as a sales rep it is very frustrating to have no control over this. To top it off you are paid a very meager rate per hour while asked to basically act as a manager / liaison for the service and inspection crews.

    Advice to Management

Where to begin - Management must look at this position not as sales but more project management. They need to increase the salary to get qualified candidates and not rush the training. I do not recommend this job to someone interested in sales.
