I have been working at Tyler Independent School District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The camaraderie between the Tyler Independent School District employees is one the aspects of working in the district I enjoy the most.

    Cons

There are many meetings and training and development sessions that feel more like checking the box than actually accomplishing their intended purpose

    Advice to Management

The number of meetings and professional development need to be kept to a minimum. New teacher meetings and professional development should be separated into two different groups; teachers that are new to teaching, and experienced teachers that are only new to TISD.

    Great working environment, friendly co-workers

    Cons

Laxk of support or communication from administration

I have been working at Tyler Independent School District (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great chance to interact with the students and utilize my past professional experience in the classroom. I get to choose which campus to work and choose the days which I work.

    Cons

    The pay is very poor.............

    Advice to Management

Set your standard, and train your staff well. Set time lines, monitor and assist the teacher, and most of all hold the teachers accountable for managing their students and classrooms on a professional level.

I have been working at Tyler Independent School District full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with, great insurance (but expensive. Administration is great at the school level. I would definitely work for TISD as a teacher.

    Cons

Low pay. Take home pay unlivable. Hard to work for as a paraprofessional. Does not have tuition reimbursement ($90 for every 4 years is a joke)

    Advice to Management

Value paraprofessional's more than you do.

    Pros

Great schools; lots to offer students; awesome parent participation.

    Cons

Nothing bad about Tyler ISD; teaching is a difficult and time consuming job anywhere you work, but it can be rewarding!

    Advice to Management

    Always have your teachers' back!

I have been working at Tyler Independent School District full-time

    Pros

    benefits, kids, technology, competitive salary

    Cons

not very welcoming, has a cookie cutter approach to all teachers, if there is something they don't like, gives you little time to improve, isn't a collaborative team, very cliquish, doesn't recognize accomplishments enough in all the staff

    Advice to Management

Make new staff more welcome, use experienced staff more, be more positive motivation than negative, too hasty in making decisions, have all administration friendly and willing to be approachable

    Pros

Great holidays - four weeks of holidays/time off during the year, in addition to two weeks' vacation. In my department, supervisors are knowledgeable and supportive.

    Cons

Too many government regulations make it difficult to get anything done. As soon as a new technology is in place, the government or district changes a requirement and we're forced to adapt.

    Advice to Management

Give good feedback and stay out of the way.

    Pros

Employer has excellent hours for my profession, very convenient to family life. Middle mgmt is very open to family issues and needing time off of work.

    Cons

You work for education, so therefore pay is on the low end. You must like what you do and not work for the pay.

    Advice to Management

Regardless of what Austin says salaries need to be, look at the local area and career field for your estimates on salaries.

I worked at Tyler Independent School District part-time

    Pros

Helping children, re-solidifying educational concepts (helps with college courses to some degree)

    Cons

Some members do not want to participate. Don't let the $10/hr. fool you, you only get paid while in class, which may end up being about 3-4 hours a day.

    Pros

Easy to stand out if you work hard and are inovative

    Cons

Too much nepotism and treat outsiders poorly

    Advice to Management

Look at qualifications and performance not word of mouth
