"Good company despite some bad division management"

    Pros

    Leader in public sector
Strong overall performance despite some bad division leaders
    Dedicated employee despite low pay

    Cons

Agree with others - the management at Renton Division reflect badly on the company and treat their employees like fools
*Terrible track record: they failed everything they do. Just look at EDEN, it is fading from the market; their partner Microsoft is ditching them too.
*Nepotism: all key management positions are occupied by people related to the old management of EDEN company or their friends. The management are clueless on what they are doing. That's why EDEN products and Dynamics AX are spinning wheels going no where.
    * Never believe a word from your managers: They promise promotions and pay raise when they need you but will quickly forget their promises after they are done using you and blame it on upper management or partners. They would never hesitate to throw you off the bus to make themselves cost saving champions.
    * Vicious retention strategy: they pay well below market rate. If you put them as one of your referees, they would deliberately give bad reference to your potential employers. That's why so many good people stuck there with stagnant salary.

    Advice to Management

Why do you put the same people who failed EDEN and Dynamics AX in charge of development? Why not save the big bucks you pay those liars to reward the employees who do all the real work?

    Pros

There is no pro with this company. You simply cannot find a worse job.

    Cons

The company is good at squeezing as much as possible from the employees. The managers are unprofessional in this company, at least in their Renton divison. They were all part of the old timers club. The typical management you have there would simply lock himself in the office all day; have no technical or professional skills and offer no constructive value to the team, except telling you how much you suck in the year end review. The managers are at the positions only because they are friends of the upper management. The management is also deceptive. Last year they were planning a mass layoff while promising everyone job security and promotion; but the end, they pushed a lot of people off the cliff. Some of them openly discriminate alumni of other schools except his own - Washington State University. we have all lost our faith in the management and their existence threatens our job security. Their incompetence is evidenced by the poor performance of EDEN and Dynamics AX.

    Advice to Management

Replace the incompetent management of Renton unless you are all like them.

    Cons

The management is ineffective and are mostly white male, the company culture is still white centric, salary is below par, promotion does not give a big boost of salary.

    Advice to Management

Need to replace white managers with indians, napalese, or Pakistani.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Free coffee, lots of idle time, lots of meetings for you to kick around

    Cons

Constantly hire and fire; the company has no idea which product it should focus and changes its mind all the time; pay is miserable and not able to attract smart and capable people; nepotism seems to be the only standard for promotion; as a result, managers have poor job knowledge and only know how to play the blame game; feels stuck and the time could have been better spent elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

You have two many overlapping products and they are all obsolete; pay your men better rather than buying companies who are equally outdated because those companies will give out and only cost you, just like EDEN you bought a few years ago.

I have been working at Tyler Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Good work/like balance.
    -Attentive management.
-Great market share of public sector software, Tylers software sells.
-Compensation and benefits are fairly competitive.
-Good office culture (Renton office has a game room, foosball tournaments, team lunches, hackathon, relaxed dress code).

    Cons

-Technology decisions usually revolve around older stacks, engineering leads are not completely aware of the evolving software development ecosystem (if you're looking to develop using that new, bleeding edge NodeJS framework - look elsewhere).
-Some projects/teams do not have as much active development as others.
-"Silo'ed" culture across various offices. How one office operates does not necessarily correspond with other offices.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose sight of the current happenings in the software engineering world. Help engineering leads continue to learn and ensure they are up to the status quo. There are plenty of advances in newer technologies and standards that could be applied to develop better software and make engineers lives easier.

Continue to push for a more enjoyable office culture as well. The status quo of culture is shifting in a big way from a "corporate feel" towards a "startup feel". If you want to retain younger employees these two things are imperative to meet.

I have been working at Tyler Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is one of the best performers in the public sector market - no layoffs since we were acquired over 10 years ago. Excellent benefits (401K, year-end bonus (based on company performance), comprehensive health care for reasonable employee contribution, short & long term disability, stock purchase option, etc). In my location management is very good and employees get along well. Very good/smart people here, no one I don't like working with makes for a very comfortable work environment. A good indicator of employee satisfaction is the significant numbers of 10 and 20 year (and more) employees

    Cons

This may not be the best campus for advancement depending on job applied for but the situation is fluid and will likely change for the better over time.

    Advice to Management

    None at present
