    I worked at U-Haul full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You're outside 90% of the work day.
Smaller branches, you get more responsibilities so you learn more.

    Cons

    Management has a high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Promote managers within branches to develop a sense of community within a location, instead of bringing outsiders in.

    Pros

As a part-time reservations manager, I was able to manage my time with work, college, and family. Whenever I needed so extra time to study, I could ask for a day off in advance and my boss always understood.

    Cons

It can be stressful and customers can be rude, but I learned how to manage every situation with respect

    I worked at U-Haul part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Provides some benefits, it is an international company, and is well known and recognized. UHaul has a wonderful name - everybody knows it

    Cons

No raises, difficult to get time off.

    Advice to Management

Training and transmitting of information helps keep everyone on the same page. UBoxes should not be handled by sales, but should have designated trained people.
All employees need to be trained to highly value customers.

    I worked at U-Haul part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Diversity. A lot of new things to learn. I got forklift certified. New skill for me.

    Cons

They do not pay well & hard to get full time hours. No matter how much effort, work ethic or desire to be there.

    Advice to Management

Value good employees and compensate them better. You require a lot of knowledge to hold this position otherwise the CSR is useless. You also have the potential applicant take a test before they are offered a position. No one needs to know a bout carburetors to hold this position, however it is on the test. My point? For all you require from your employee you should offer better pay and benefits. Hire more full time reliable people rather than let them slip away. I was one of those people. :)

    I worked at U-Haul part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

U-Haul customers are awesome, they it when you initiate a conversation and remember them by name when they return.
Schedule was flexible, GM worked around my class schedule
Additional certifications ( propane, forklift, and u-box) typically lead to wage increases; once you complete all courses you may receive an additional dollar or two but no more than three.
Employee discount can be used by friends and family.
At my location there was an annual team building BBQ.

    Cons

At this location there were limited opportunities for growth.
Marketing company president and corporate bigwigs perceive low/entry level employees to be incompetent which is a reflection on the company culture.
Hard-working employees typically find themselves being handed duties of other whom are too lazy; culture that promotes slothfulness and does not discipline or terminate dead weight.
Efforts to provide highest quality of customer service are rewarded.
Personnel quality was below par, mgmt hired seedy characters.

    Advice to Management

Provide bonuses or competitive opportunities to top performers
    Thoroughly vet potential hires.
Do not allow new hires or seasoned associates to become comfortable(lazy) in their positions.
Promote based on performance, customer service quality, and customer feedback rather than tenure or excessive brown-nosing.
