I have been working at U-Haul part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible hours, enjoyable co-workers and store management. Always meeting new people from all walks of life who simply want to move their belongings in a safe and economical way with late model, well maintained equipment.

    Cons

Center in Medford, Oregon is right next door to a homeless shelter & community service facility for drug addicts and other homeless individuals with all sorts of mental health issues. They sleep in the back of the unlocked trucks, leaving behind excrement, urine, drug paraphernalia and other rubbish for employees to clean up (GROSS, and DANGEROUS!) Even during the day it's a dangerous atmosphere and there is frequent violence in the area which spills over into the U-Haul lot. Minimum wage pay for employees and only part-time hours is very stingy of management for the hard work the Customer Service employees endure.

    Advice to Management

With stock prices well exceeding $300 per share, U-Haul isn't going broke anytime soon.
Raise the hourly wage by 50% above state minimums, and hire merchant security patrols for overnight hours, or move the location entirely to a safer neighborhood with a bigger and well lit lot.

    I worked at U-Haul full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a great company to work for when it comes to benefits

    Cons

You are expected to work a minimum of 50-60 hrs per week on salary, MCP's are not supposed to have the authority to fire your employees but they will STRONGLY RECOMMEND you fire certain people, and a workers' comp case will get you fired eventually

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-For every storage unit you rent out, you can get $5
-If your team is doing great on sales, we would received a bonus ($10-25)
-The hrs allow you to balance your time in school and work

    Cons

    -It can be very stressful.
-If a customer needed a truck, we were not allowed to let them know that the eq. was not available, and were required to make the reservation. Many times the customer would show up to find out there was not truck.

    Advice to Management

-Find a better way to control the equipment
-If the equipment is not available, the customer should be able to know at the time of the reservation
