    I worked at U-Haul full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    benefits and hours are good

    Cons

where to begin.... unnecessary amount of upper management positions, causing problems when the right hand don't know what the left hand is doing. Good Ol Boy system is too alive and well in this company, promotions are based on who you know and not your track record with the company. Upper management seems to only be interested in micro managing, views employees as replaceable and not valued. Will work you to death for as little pay as possible. Training is slightly above pathetic. The verbal abuse you get from customers, they EXPECT you tolerate, is unreal. Deceitful business practices, there is no interest in customer concerns and will throw your over worked and under paid butt right under the bus (fabricating things as they go if need be) to protect their own interests rather than what is right and ethical. Their POS and WSS software have daily issues that we were expected to play off, which is impossible when you sometimes can't do a contract or ring up a sales item. They are trying to make mobile handheld the new thing and do away with the computer, which thus far has been disastrous, then they chastise YOU for THEIR software not operating properly. They DO NOT want to pay unemployment so if one upper management person does not like you, that's it, they will force you to quit wherever possible, I watched this happen to a co worker, constant harassment and excessive micro management, write ups for things that aren't even policy. Very shady company to work for.

    Advice to Management

pay your employees better, treat them as a valued team member, give good employees the opportunity for advancement and not your under qualified friends. STOP allowing your customers to verbally abuse your employees. Pay your software engineers and IT guys what they are worth so your employees can have proper working software to do their jobs in a more professional manner.
ADVICE TO OVER PAID UPPER MANAGEMENT: LOSE THE "GOD COMPLEX", IT'S VERY UNJUSTIFIED!

    Cons

when it's slow it's super slow. The work could also be more rewarding and there could be better opportunities for advancement.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You are able to work from home, but only if you work for the call center

    Cons

They are overly strict on everything. From your time clock, how to enter information into the system, nit pick the way that you talk, and do not protect you from customer that are either rude, yelling, obscene, vulgar, and use of massive profanity. Plus if your missing hours, that may or may not be added to your next paycheck.

    Advice to Management

Protect your employees, when they transfer to managers; have the managers help not pawn off.

    I worked at U-Haul part-time

    Pros

I very much enjoyed working with my direct managers.
    Soaring stock value, good benefits.
Generally promote from within, much growth potential for driven employees.

    Cons

    Internal POS software is horrendous.
Quality of service varies widely between company locations.
Profit margins are king, and employees are disposable.

    Advice to Management

As important as dealers are to your bottom line, know that they cause the most trouble for both company-owned locations and U-Haul's image as a whole.

    I worked at U-Haul full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Provides a great product at a great price. Usually a fair deal.

    Cons

Their fleet management could use improvement. They make the customers do THEIR companies driving.

    Advice to Management

Go back to catering to moving customers in need. They shouldn't have to drive farther just because you guys don't want to pay someone to.

I have been working at U-Haul part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work from home
    Some managers are great

    Cons

Working from home limits you to entry level
No raises no matter how long you work there

    Advice to Management

You are missing out on a lot of talented dedicated employees by not allowing work from home employees to advance beyond entry level. 3000 employees who are speaking directly to your customers know that if they ever want to make any more money, they have to leave the company.
