    I worked at U.S. Senate full-time

    Pros

Great place to work. I enjoyed working with a broad variety of colleagues. It's a political environment, so there are diverse opinions. However, it was very rewarding to work with people and seek common ground in developing legislation and national policy. You didn't always walk away with what you hoped for, but frequently could achieve common sense results.

    Cons

It's a political environment and many of the people you work with can be way too partisan. It's better to seek common ground so that solutions can be achieved through cooperation and understanding.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Lots of smart, talented, committed people

    Cons

Lack of sufficient employment protections, lots of old boy network style discrimination, and low morale because Congress is justifiably vilified.

I worked at U.S. Senate full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Great healthcare and benefits
    -interesting experiences in region
    -travel
    -Government holidays
    -decent stories to tell
    -patriotic events
    -meet alot of people
    -gain many contacts
-decent food and drink at events
    - good options for training

    Cons

    - young staffers don't understand real life experience
    - power curupts absolutely
    - ambitious power hungry people lie to get what they want
    - everybody pushes the blame
-it's all about who donates the money
    -bad work- life balance
-Too much stress and pressure for stupid stuff that real people don't even care about
-many managers have no business in leadership positions

    Advice to Management

HR needs to crack down on the bad characters that are power hungry (they are usually the campaign related people). Maybe even legislation should be passed on this corruption. We need servant leaders in these offices. In office HR is a joke because no one will speak up out of fear of getting fired.
Our government leadership and congressional offices need some accountability and to know what it is to serve.

    I worked at U.S. Senate full-time

    Pros

If you love politics and making a difference, there's no better place to work, though your experience depends entirely on which Senator you work for.

    Cons

Feeling like you need to always be plugged into work whether you're in the office, on vacation, etc.
