Incompetent mgmt and BofA culture have poisoned U.S. Trust. Behaving more like Merrill Lynch than a private bank.

    Pros

Career opportunities. Team environment. Good benefits.

    I worked at U.S. Trust

    Pros

Good investment content, solid investment platform

    Cons

US Trust will never win the appropriate attention needed to grow due to the executive level love affair with Merrill Lynch. Merrilly Lynch is the tail that wags the dog within GWIM (global wealth investment management).

    I worked at U.S. Trust

    Pros

Was a respected trust company before Bank of America bought it Nice offices in downtown LA Base compensation good, bonus OK

    Cons

Management in constant turmoil due to conflicts between legacy BAC, UST and Merrill Lynch managers Management in LA market particularly poor and results in high turnover Management is from retail banking and doesn't understand HNW market -- pretty much a junior-high atmosphere Unprofessional environment where clients take a back seat to revenue numbers

I have been working at U.S. Trust

    Pros

Great thought leadership and investment/trust/planning platform. Clients have access to a world class wealth management process. Most professional staff are capable, competent, and good to work with.

    Cons

Regional management team is weak. Merger with Merrill Lynch has created channel conflicts that have yet to be dealt with. Management tries to find ways to stiff professionals on incentive compensation.

I have been working at U.S. Trust

    Pros

Great brand, both with U.S. Trust and Bank of America. There also is incredible potential to dominate the high net worth market with the deptth of experience from US Trust and the strength of Bank of America. Very talented personnel as well. U.S. Trust also has a strong offering of alternative investment options. The leadership from the former U.S. Trust associates has been impressive. The combination of investment management, banking and credit, trust administration, and wealth planning are very strong. The internal referral network of bankers in other divisions is a good source of referrals. U.S. Trust is moving toward having smaller, more manageable numbers of clients per sales team. Also, the team approach consisting of a Private Client Advisor, the Private Client Manager, Trust Officer, and Portfolio Manager has great potential.

    Cons

Constant change, particularly in management, tight expense controls. There is a lot of anxiety over the impending integration of Merrill Lynch and how clients will be segmented for assignment purposes. Also, Frances Aldrich Sevila-Secasa, who was with the legacy U.S. Trust has been displaced with Keith Banks taking over as president of US Trust.
