I worked at UAT (University of Advancing Technology) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The job was very laid back and great. My favorite part was getting to know the faculty and staff.

    Cons

The library things were a mess. The whole cataloging of items was very messy and unorganized.

    Advice to Management

Management should pay more attention to the library because everything is very unorganized. Maybe hire a full-time librarian.

I worked at UAT (University of Advancing Technology) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work with students and aided in paying for my college.

    Cons

Not worth the stress and extra duties that the university expected of us that wasn't in our contracts.

    Advice to Management

The management was no problem. It was the Dean that kept forcing extra tasks onto us.

    Pros

There are quite a few faculty and staff members that interact in a very positive manner with the students attending. They create a positive impact, and put a lot of work and care into the curriculum and want to see the students succeed. Good work life balance, culture that encourages technology exposure, free lunch/dinner per day

    Cons

Proposed changes and recommendations to core structure fall on deaf ears. There is a clear divide between management and everyone else. Problems arise with curriculum and there is little retention rate of employees that are coming in. Part time workers and student workers are not well represented and are not usually treated with respect

    Advice to Management

Listen more to your employees and understand the points of which they are coming from. There is a large gap between each of the departments and there can be a tremendous lack of communication between them as well. Run trainings for your employees to discuss matters of professionalism and have a channel for communication about these matters.

UAT IT techs workers where very help full for anyone who started working within this business.

I have been working at UAT (University of Advancing Technology) full-time

    Pros

Everyone seems to be trying to do their best here, but it's like everyone keeps missing. Those working directly with students seem to put a good care into that (for the most part), but it's a different story on the back end. Lots of holidays off, a decent amount of PTO, and benefits are alright.

    Cons

There seems to be a lot of corruption internally. Management is very cliquey and if you aren't meeting goals (goals are based upon the best year ever), you're out or demoted. The work environment can be extremely pessimistic and difficult to work in. There is a best friend/family group and nothing stays secret among them, which results in confidentiality issues. They don't require related experience in some of their positions which results in people not doing an A+ job. Not much on-the-job training either. It's kind of like a bunch of chickens running around with their heads cut off.

    Advice to Management

Get some professional, external training for all employees on all levels. Treat your employees with the respect and dignity they deserve, and please try to keep confidentiality.

I worked at UAT (University of Advancing Technology) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you are a family member of anyone on senior mgt. you'll do great.

    Cons

    See above.
Limited support for students and new faculty. Shockingly limited technology.

    Advice to Management

Why bother? They already know everything and surround themselves with spouses, lovers, mothers, brothers etc Very cosy.

I worked at UAT (University of Advancing Technology) part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great supervisors, and very flexible hours. They will work around your class schedule, provide travel reimbursement, and allow you to pick your own hours.

    Cons

As with most college jobs, the pay isn't very good. It is enough to help you pay for groceries, but that is pretty much the point.

    Advice to Management

Stay in touch with your employees, as they represent the university as a whole. Unhappy employees will not speak well about the employer or the university.

  11. "Great place for students and faculty/staff!"

I have been working at UAT (University of Advancing Technology) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great leadership! The leadership has the proper expertise and focuses on the people, which is hard to find in any institution especially higher ed. Usually in higher ed. the leadership is an academic with no management skills. The UAT leadership cares about the people and focuses on staff development and workplace happiness. The leadership team cares deeply about providing a great education and a unique community for the student body. UAT provides education and opportunities that are unmatched by any other workplace or school. The leadership team values the community and works hard to give back or get involved and encourages students and staff to do the same.

If you like to learn, grow, work hard, but have fun then UAT is a great place to work! If you love technology, innovation, creativity, cutting edge resources, access to industry experts, then UAT is a great place to earn a degree. Not to mention that there or on-campus and online associate, bachelor and master degree options to fit the needs of even the busiest students.

UAT provides great benefits to students and staff. There is an advisory board of industry experts who help to ensure that UAT curriculum prepares students to meet and exceed industry expectations. Alumni are welcome to audit courses for free- great way to stay competitive and up to date on technology and business. Alumni are welcome to use Career Services indefinitely.

Campus living is easy. Parking is easy (so no overpaying for parking to find no spaces) Small campus so no long (hot) walks or bus rides to classes. No surprisingly high book costs each semester. Great dorm spaces! There are lots of student groups and organizations. UAT has local and national partnerships and contacts so there is plenty of opportunity to network with industry leaders. There are regular Career Fairs and Tech Forums. There is even an exchange program for study abroad options. UAT also hosts students from abroad only adding to the rich UAT culture
As an employee I feel lucky for the chance to learn from the best leadership team and the brightest students.

    Cons

The con is that I didn't find UAT sooner. UAT would have been my school of choice. The education is unmatched.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Your staff are lucky to learn from a leadership team that has successfully combined academically focused brilliance with management expertise. The students are lucky to be a part of a school with a leadership team that strives to provide the best education, resources and industry contacts possible with a focus on community involvement and cultural richness.
