I have been working at UBS as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I've worked for different companies and what I liked most is that since it's corporate, there's less personal drama (though there isn't a lack thereof.) some of the higher ups were great to work with and the lay was excellent.

    Cons

To begin, they had a revolving door for Project Managers who were contracted and never trained. This always lead to playing catch up. At the same one many employees weren't as profesional as others and had poor behavior. They'd make underhanded remarks and gossip a lot. More than anything else, there was a lot of people throwing each other under the bus. Coworker's would drop the ball and blame whoever was under them. There isn't much one could do to prevent that except keep a smile on their face. Last, but not least, I didn't learn much at all and I feel like I knew more than most seniors.

    Advice to Management

Management had a lot of spinning plates and as a result ignored many of the things happening right in front of them or neglected priorities as the expense of entire projects or other employees. Sometimes my manager didn't handle their emotions well in the face of pressure. My advice would be to leave the personal stuff at home and instead of pleasing other departments, you should have more loyalty to your immediate team.

I worked at UBS full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great brand. Generally friendly culture. Excellent place to develop professional skills. Mostly satisfied to have spent a few years here early in my career.

    Cons

Low growth environment. Career advancement largely driven by personnel changes above you. Very bureaucratic. Hard to see promising long-term career prospects here, unless you're okay with just waiting to see if you catch a fortunate break.

    Pros

UBS has a high focus on encouraging diversity of people, thoughts and ideas. They empower employees to challenged the status quo, everyone has a voice. There are many opportunities to get involved in various projects. It's a very positive environment with a good amount of transparency and a high level of collaboration across the organization. You know what you do and how it contributes to the over all goals of the firm.

    Cons

For me, the reverse commute across the Hudson.

Cost cutting has put a lot of burden on employees, and not end in sight.
Most employees are performing in two or three jobs, without getting fair compensation
Rewards brown nosing instead of actual work

    Hire more staff.
    Meet your regulatory obligations.
