I worked at UC Davis full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

UC Davis has great faculty who do amazing research.

    Cons

Leadership is political and disorganized. Many program overlap, have dead weight staff, and everything takes forever. It exemplifies all the negative descriptions of a government agency.

    Advice to Management

Communication needs to be strengthened between departments. Many leaders have been there for 30+ years and are not innovative and have become too comfortable in their positions, and are GROSSLY overpaid for a state university.

I have been working at UC Davis part-time

    Pros

UC Davis staff is relatively very encouraging and motivating.

    Cons

Sometimes find it difficult to get ahold of higher ups in the institution.

    Advice to Management

Be more responsive with Aggie Job Link applications from students.

I have been working at UC Davis full-time

    Pros

Flexible work hours and nice colleagues. Davis is a great place to live and have a family.

    Cons

Postdocs in general have very little job and financial stability. You have to keep advancing your academic career and have very clear plans every step of the way (or very good luck) in order to survive in academia.

    Pros

nice colleagues if you get in a good department, good students, some positions have a good union too, great overall feel

    Cons

widely varied experiences by department, can feel siloed, university relies on underpaid TAs/AIs to do a lot of the grading/teaching labor

    Advice to Management
