" Where you go to stagnate"

Pros

Not generally expected to work long hours or after hours. Pension plan. Job security for most. Support an institution with a good mission with and that supports its community.

Cons

Loyalty gets rewarded not necessarily merit. Little to no growth opportunities. Little professional development opportunities unless you are a favorite. On average, low salary compared to industry. People in leadership positions that shouldn't be. Leadership at the highest levels is a mess and insular. Decades old technology and processes. Diversity drops off the higher up you look. Culture of sugar-coating everything as opposed to clearly stating risks and issues.

Pros

The federal government offers 1 year of funding to new students

Cons

Most professors do not have enough funding to support any new students. Many foreign students make the situation worse--more competitive in a bad way.
