I worked at UC San Diego Health full-time

    Pros

The key pros are flexibility and job security. The pace of work is consistent and does not impose too much pressure from day to day. The work environment is professional and motivating.

    Cons

You are trading your flexibility for lack of consistent resources for personal development. The biggest trade-off is that you have to pay for parking!

    Advice to Management

It would be helpful to provide more meaningful titles to employees. There is such a disconnect between internal and external titles.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at UC San Diego Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

benefits, government holidays, and retirement pension

    Cons

tribal mentality. If you haven't been with the company for years, you aren't accepted.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire new staff - just recycle the oldies from other departments-pass the trash. Tribal, antiquated and out of touch describes management. the top down style is alive and well at UCSD. HR sends email to voice your concerns - but no one except management has a vote. totally one-sided and don't bother bringing in talent - you don't know anything until you "drink the UCSD kool-aid".

I worked at UC San Diego Health full-time

    Pros

If you work for the right department UCSD Health is a great place to work. Benefits are fair and most people are happy.

    Cons

Information services is well known to be one of the worst departments based on it's poor leadership. Employees in the department are overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated. There is also a severe segregation issue within the department and a deep problem with some management and departments looking down on others.

    Advice to Management

UCSD is a good place to work but I would advice that Management needs to change the culture in the information services department.

    - Management is relaxed
    - Pretty diverse work environment
    - Occasional free food and events

    Cons

    - If you're having trouble with a task, help is scarce
    - Many times I would spend 2-3 weeks developing something only to be told it wouldnt be used.
    - Work environment is pretty segregated in the sense that every individuals office is closed off - not open concept
    - Unless you buy a yearly pass (expensive) or pay daily, the nearest free parking is a good 10-15min walk away.
