    A great place to network and make lateral moves in your career.

    Cons

    Employee culture is down and amenities (food, training, social gatherings) are very rare.

    Advice to Management

    Improve employee culture by assuring that the leadership cares about the individual.

    If you get hired, there are no checks, so it's very hard to get fired.

    Cons

    However, it is difficult to get hired for the position you like.

    Substantial resources as a student just have to seek them
    Great area to collaborate with

    Cons

    Limited housing options, many students commute 30 min to an hr due to housing costs

    Advice to Management

    Work on retaining employees. There seems to be a lot of admin turn around and the students and faculty end up having to deal with a lot more inconsistencies during transitions

    Pros

    Great location, great health insurance, sports facilities, public transport pass throughout San Diego, very nice and smart colleagues dedicating to making a real contribution to the world through research, close to the beach.

    Cons

    Parking is too expensive and difficult to find. Surrounding neighborhood not as socially active as downtown, but they are building a trolley to downtown.

    Pros

    Supportive culture. Very good health care and retirement benefits package. Generous paid time off. Many commuting and transportation options. Cultural events throughout the year are many and varied. Worthy mission.

    Cons

    Salaries typically below those in private industry. Low to no annual salary increases. Budget subject to the whims of the state legislature and governor. No free parking, except on holidays and weekends.
