I have been working at UC San Francisco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Satisfying work that supports a wide variety of doctors, nurses, and in the end - ensures that the patients receive the best care in the world. The research that takes place at UCSF is also world class. This is why UCSF is consistently ranked among the best institutions in the USA.

    Cons

Sometimes the work is more challenging than expected and made more intense because we must find solutions to move things forward. Although it might be seen as a negative - it makes things better for those suffering so it is all for the greater good.

    Advice to Management

Consider the impacts of outsourcing before doing any further moves in that direction.

I worked at UC San Francisco as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great, supportive manager who believes in teamwork and sharing knowledge. Also great coworkers. Enjoyed working there during my contract.

I have been working at UC San Francisco full-time

    Pros

UCSF has a lot of resources and experts (at least for my lab/field). Everyone is very friendly and knowledgable. My PI is AMAZING!! Love all my labmates. Love the people! A very collaborative environment.

    Cons

Graduate students' stipend is intrinsically low (not specific to UCSF). With the super high cost of living in the Bay Area, it's hard to save any money.
