I have been working at UC San Francisco full-time

    Pros

UCSF is a leader not only in basic science and translational research, but also in the innovation of career development strategies. The career services office offers robust services for all postdocs and graduate students to pursue both academic and non-academic career paths, and the location of UCSF in the Bay Area makes it an ideal location to obtain top-notch postdoctoral experience while networking in industry at the same time.

I worked at UC San Francisco for more than 5 years

    Pros

Top University, highly collaborative environment, plenty of opportunities. Nice city and very nice people.

    Cons

Absurdly expensive, or even unaffordable, for postdocs with 40-50K annual salary.

    Advice to Management

Provide affordable school housing to trainees.

I have been working at UC San Francisco full-time

    Pros

Amazing opportunities and great collaboration. Scientists at UCSF are very willing to work with their colleagues across various disciplines.

    Cons

Post-doc may go on longer than expected but this may be common to all academic postdoc positions, especially in biological sciences

    Advice to Management

I would advise supervisors to sit down with their postdocs as soon as possible, especially after the first year, and discuss career plans to help them efficiently reach their goals

I have been working at UC San Francisco

    Pros

It is a great scientific environment. Great labs. The medical and dental plans are good. You go there for the science not for the salary benefits.

    Cons

They have very limited subsidized housing. And the city is very expensive. Hard to survive on one postdoc salary. You will need to find roommates.
