Administrative Assistant

I need help. Anyone have information of being an advanced medical support assistant for veterans affairs? I got offered a job in the SF valley . The pay Is a bit less but it's about 5.5 miles from my house.close. Why do people pray for government jobs? At the moment I'm with ucla health as an admin assistant float permanent& have been offered permanent placement at a site in LA about 16 miles . The pay seems pretty decent& also have the pension plan. Been here about 2 years no issues.

    Pros

Great benefits, great patient to staff ratio for mental health, great supportive work environment, opportunities for growth, still offers pension plus other retirement options.

    Cons

Tons of continuing education to keep up with magnet designation, this can be a pro/con depends on how you see it

    Pros

    + Well-staffed + Strong union

    Cons

    - Shifts and holidays based on seniority - Preceptor and committee positions based on seniority or management/educator favoritism (despite ample opportunities, it is a slow/ difficult process to professionally grow in comparison to other hospitals I've worked at)

No gratitude, respect or proper compensation with increased responsibilities

Oct 6, 2022 - Human Resources Administrative Analyst in Los Angeles, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Benefits are okay, but certain plans carry huge deductions from pay.

    Cons

They charge you for parking and other ridiculous things. You get a ludicrously generic job description so you get underpaid for additional work and responsibilities. The director had no idea what was going on with her staff unless she was made aware by the time the damage was done. Definitely favoritism and it showed in the stupidly low bonuses and petty insignificant equity increases. 3% = doing a good job which was 50 cents. Senior human resources management seemed like they were in a competition to divert blame, burn bridges with other human resources department. There were 5 to 6 different departments when I left which is contributing to this problem. Recruitment was a disaster and we have to abide by how they did things no matter how badly it effected us. Any ideas I had for more efficiently processing and communicating were shot down before I could finish a sentence. Lived paycheck to paycheck with two roommates.

    Very Stable

    Aug 19, 2022 - Practice Manager
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - The Benefits - Medical, Maternity/Paternity Leave (8 weeks at 70% pay, up to 12 weeks using PTO or unpaid), and Retirement options (pension or 401k). - In management, you'll have autonomy with your clinic (depending on Director) so you can run it the way you feel is necessary. Available classes for team leadership and LinkedIn Learning are great resources too. - It's very stable with predictable hours so the work/life balance is great. And if you retire here you will have an excellent pension plan. Other managers will provide support as well but you need to take the initiative to find it.

    Cons

    - PAYING FOR PARKING. This is egregious. $86 a month right off your paycheck. - The internal company infrastructure seems outdated and the policies are convoluted and often hard to dig up. Questions regarding proper point-of-contacts and SOPs are constantly rerouted as hardly anything is standardized. - Working with the unions. Lots of red tape when corrective action is needed. Nearly impossible to release the low performing employees who feel entitled.

What’s the best way to prepare for a virtual interview? "A virtual interview is nevertheless a real job interview, so make sure you treat it as such. Act and dress professionally as you would meeting a recruiter or hiring manager in person. Double check your internet connection and try to find a quiet place for your interview. Remember, this is still your chance to highlight your accomplishments and share why you are the best fit for a position." – Joanna, Consultant, Talent Acquisition Explore careers with us!
