    Pros

Very big university, lots of opportunities. They even have Postdoc Union to make the salary right. They have the minimum salary.

    Cons

Has 24 days of vacation every year. But don't think your boss allow you to take full of that. If you take half of your vacation you are very lucky, and have a risk of lose your job.

    Pros

The school has a great faculty that are passionate about educating the students. It is a very creative environment that enables staff and students to succeed.

    Cons

There can be a lack of organized communication between the departments. This is especially true when working as a vendor / freelance.

    Advice to Management

Work on communication with vendors and freelance employees. It can be difficult to do a job when we are not included on emails or phone calls for projects we are directly involved with.

I have been working at UCLA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great coworkers, excellent benefits. Hospital adjacent haha. So far parking has been easy to find, which is an impressive feat in LA. My manager seems to genuinely care about his employees' well-being and growing in their positions.

    Cons

You have to pay for parking. I don't understand that, though it seems to be the norm in education. $80 a month. You want me here on time, let me park for free. Otherwise be ok with me being late because it's an hour bus ride versus a 20 minute drive.

    Advice to Management

Nothing. My experiences with management so far have been outstanding. They seem to really want to grow employees and see them advance in the organization.

    Pros

I worked for 8 years for the Chem & Biochem department at UCLA. This is a great department with a supportive leadership and excellent benefits.

    Cons

Salary in the public sector is generally less than the public sector, but the benefits are great.

    Advice to Management

No advice. They have a great open-door policy if you have suggestions or concerns.

I have been working at UCLA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, benefits, benefits. Incredible insurance, pension, and other perks with every job at UCLA. That alone is a reason people stay at UCLA. There is so much opportunity to check out new areas at UCLA that fits your interests.

    Cons

How much you may enjoy your job is totally dependent on the area where you work. I happen to work in an area currently where I have absolutely no interest. That makes it pretty hard to feel invested. Another con is that pay can be lower than market pay for a similar job, but that's often outweighed by the benefits.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the workers in your department but keep an eye on what's happening on campus. There are some great leaders and great departments - learning from them and implementing in your own department will definitely help!

    Pros

Consistent and stable job for those who are looking for stability. Great campus and lots of perks for staff as well as great benefits

    Cons

Depending on department, hard to get a yearly raise. Very internal when applying to other positions on campus. Can be hard to move from dept to dept.

I worked at UCLA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good reputation, ranking, exposure, some proff good, UCLA brand

    Cons

Bureaucracy, terrible management, proff and staff add more roadblocks than they remove

    Advice to Management

Streamline and value people not money
