    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at UCSD Academic Computing and Media Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This was a stimulating environment for many years. Talented people.

    Cons

The current Chancellor lacks understanding of strategic computing applications. He is unable to understand the complexities of our environment although he tries to impress everyone that he's an expert. The campus has taken significant steps backward due to his inflexibility.

    Advice to Management

This is his fifth year. We're hoping as our many areas of the campus that he'll be moving on.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at UCSD Academic Computing and Media Services part-time

    Pros

Was an excellent place to work as a student at UCSD with wonderful management and flexible hours. Work is primarily with other students, but professional work is expected.

    Cons

Cons associated with help desk positions; difficult customers, outage recovery, etc. Upper management makes these much more manageable.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you do!

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at UCSD Academic Computing and Media Services part-time

    Pros

Mostly working with other students at the helpdesk. Almost all of the full-time staff are friendly and are always appreciative of the work. Fun work environment and reasonable hours. They also work around your class schedule.

    Cons

Depending on the area you are assigned there may or may not be a lot of downtime. Can also be tiring at times dealing with unhappy customers.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Maybe let the students relax a bit or allow them to work on their homework at times (as long as they are stlll taking calls, answering tickets, etc.)
