I worked at UCSD Moores Cancer Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Medical operation is good and awesome. Many slacker coworkers/managers who does almost nothing at the office still have a job and get yearly raise like everyone else. Good for retiree or the people looking for a very secure job. No performance management system, no employees are being fired for poor performance.

    Cons

Low salary (around 40%-50% lower than industry). Able and experienced people need to do more work to "support" inexperienced and green people (some people are manager relatives). The supporting tasks go by unnoticed and unappreciated until some quality issues raised, and they put your supporting job on the line. Working from home is not allowed (except for some people, very unfair). No chance of moving up or get raises even if your education, skills, or experience go above the job required, no matter how lazy or how hard you work. Many managers stay here to retire, therefore, the concept or management skill for clinical trial stays 20 years ago.

    Advice to Management

Replace incompetent but entrenched employees who can't do their job. Invest more in establishing the clinical research training to provide and improve the new hired and inexperienced employee.

I have been working at UCSD Moores Cancer Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

good benefits - new employees get 3 weeks of vacation per year, good retirement benefits
Great place to work for clinical research
Location is awesome, but very expensive

    Cons

HR department does not know anything and they are not helpful. Almost all jobs are covered by the union and they don't tell you until after you are hired. Union dues are automatically taken out of your paycheck and you can't withdraw from the union. My salary was capped because of a union equity policy. When you call HR, they never know if certain policies apply to you so you can't get answers.
    Transportation to campus is awful

    Advice to Management

provide more opportunities for employees to meet and know management and more opportunities for career growth.
