I worked at UCare (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good company. Overall good people.

    Cons

iT is able to influence negatively to the point where it is disruptive to business goals. As a result, it is difficult to get mission critical initiatives to completion. Expensive way to operate.

    Advice to Management

Ensure you have qualified people in leadership roles -e.g AD's, architects. Include delivery against business goals as part of IT annual plans/review cycles.

I have been working at UCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

UCare puts members first. Every day, I go to work with the goal of contributing to this mission.

    Cons

I have nothing bad to say about UCare. Whatever cons there might be, they pale next to the employees and mission of the company.

    Advice to Management

Thumbs up. Management is involved and dedicated. I hope they never stop trying to ensure employees know how valuable they are.

I worked at UCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, work/life balance depending on manager or department. Layoff was done in a respectful and generous manner. Superior reputation, Top Places To Work winner.

    Cons

Layoffs allowed people pleasures to stay and let go people that actually knew what they were doing. Uncertain future.

    Advice to Management

You request input from employees, but don't hear what they are saying.

I worked at UCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful people. Employee health and fitness options. Supportive management. Open door policies all the way up to CEO level. Great work/life balance.

    Cons

Challenging future ahead. Management has difficulty delegating decisions, especially low level decisions. Not enough people around to do the "run the business" work let alone "grow the business."

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing adhering to core values! Keep treating employees with dignity and respect. Keep focusing on the member experience. Seriously look at the performance, capability, and qualifications of people in middle management. Change the culture to one of empowerment for non management instead of treating non management people like assembly line workers.

I worked at UCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent pay for what you are doing (inbound call center). Most call center positions at UCare start around $16-$17/hour for a temp, but if you get brought on full time they start around $18-$19/hour.

Company culture is fun and positive. It doesn't feel like they are trying to squeeze the life out of you like some other call centers.

    Cons

I was a part of their 2016 layoffs...which sucks. Other than that, there is not a lot to complain about.

    Advice to Management

Make more of an effort to retain good employees. Hire more people in your call center (especially in the transportation/healthride queues) so your reps don't get burned out.

I have been working at UCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

UCare has been known as a good company but proceed with caution, as the massive reorg and layoff of hundreds of employees planned for January 2016 will likely change this company significantly. Whether it is a positive or negative change will take some time to determine. It may take most of 2016 to see how the company will emerge from this challenge.

    Cons

There is internal pressure to participate in UCare's multitude of volunteer "opportunities," which can add additional stress to those of us who work long days, and also have family and other professional obligations that require time and attention.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time planning, so you spend less time producing. There are many rush projects instead of planning and strategy. The marketing is very reactive, and the focus is to "push" materials instead of to "pull" people in with valuable, engaging content. It's not unusual for members and prospects to complain they receive too many UCare communications by mail and phone.
