Why I choose UDR over everyone else

Sep 27, 2022 - Resident Services Manager in Silver Spring, MD
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    1. The job title is the job description 2. Your team supports you and is knowledgeable 3. You do what is required of you and no one else's job 4. Your ideas are heard no matter the position you hold 5. You get to talk to everyone and set the tone of the community 6. Create operating procedures that will help the community

    Cons

    1. You must set reminders to eat lunch or you'll look up at 3:30pm and realize you haven't eaten all day 2. It's easy to stay stationary and remain at your desk - remind yourself to walk around and check in with the community residents.

    Good company to work for!

Nov 29, 2022 - Service Manager in Baltimore, MD
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

UDR has very transparent leadership and a completely open door policy that fosters a strong team atmosphere. They offer very competitive wages for talented associates. No after-hours call duty for maintenance except on a back-up basis.

    Cons

Not many... UDR is a bit OCD when it comes to the back ground stuff like PO (purchase order) adoption percentages, open invoices, preventative maintenance, light checks... stuff like that.

    Greatest Show On Earth!!!

Oct 25, 2022 - Service Manager in San Francisco, CA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Trust- UDR trusts it's employees, to make mature decisions, on everything from company credit cards, to multi million dollar real estate assets. Growth- UDR is always thinking of ways to train, promote, and elevate it's associates to the next level. Empathy- UDR implements benefit changes based on the needs of it's employees through associate surveys.

    Cons

UDR is a huge "ship", and sometimes, like a turning "ship', the changes take time to evaluate, implement, and execute.

    Great Work Place

    Nov 1, 2022 - Leasing Agent

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Overall easy job, you get to meet a lot of cool people and go through the excitement of a new chapter of them moving in.

    Cons

Rent prices change every day so sometimes people see an older, lower price somewhere and think it's still valid and you have to explain that it's changed

Finally a company who finally apricates their employees

Oct 17, 2022 - Renewals Specialist in Highlands Ranch, CO
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Pay is great! They give covid pay instantly if you get sick, like I did within the probationary period. The managers actually care about their employees and their happiness, and the work life balance truly being balanced. They show appreciation constantly to their employees making you feel at home.

    Cons

Training could have been a little better but that's always a work in progress :)

    It's All About Your Manager...

    Jul 7, 2022 - Assistant Community Director
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

As with many jobs, your experience at UDR will mostly depend on your relationship with your manager. Even within the same city, I spoke with several Asst. Managers who had a great experience, and some that had a terrible experience based on who their manager was within the company. Take time to get to know your potential manager. It might be a good idea to ask if you can speak with anyone else that has been managed by them in the past? Your manager will be the person that you spend time with every single day, so they will be the largest influence on your experience at the company. If you find a great manager, you will enjoy your time at the company. Sadly, the opposite is also true and if you get unlucky and have a terrible manager, you will likely dread going to work every day. Do your research and you likely won't be disappointed!

    Cons

Upper-level management shows favoritism to certain managers/ properties for unknown reasons, which is frustrating for others that are working hard

Deliberately understaffed, very high stress job as a result

    Jul 5, 2022 - Anonymous Employee
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Pay is good but not for the huge amount of responsibility placed on each person. A single employee will carry the load of at least three people, no matter which position you have. In the past ten years they have deliberately cut down on what used to be an adequate number of people, just to save the company money.

    Cons

As an example, they had 3 or 4 maintenance persons at each site but now they are down to just one (or none!) at some properties and expect him to share his time with other sites if needed, leaving huge gaps in coverage. And that's the situation all across the board, with all of the other positions from leasing to management. It's very hard to take time off a result, and using sick time is frowned upon since some sites have just one person there.

    Centralized Sales Intern

    Oct 25, 2022 - Intern
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Upper management is very involved, great culture

    Cons

KPIs for bonuses for sales employees are hard to meet and somewhat unrealistic
