I worked at UF Health part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are quite nice, and if you stay with UF Health providers, you won't have much out-of-pocket expense. As Florida often does, this hospital system has attracted skilled doctors and nurses from around the country who are generally nice to deal with. Lincoln Financial performs ahead of the pack in terms of retirement investments. All around a good place to work if you're looking for a career and haven't figured out that salaries are much higher in other states.

    Cons

Like most jobs in Florida, the cost of living has outpaced salaries, and the ranks are full of people (usually management) who simply metabolize oxygen and get in the way by feigning competence. Most disturbingly, the CEO once sent out an email describing Florida's culture of malpractice lawsuits "unfair to new doctors who should be able to build wealth". That actually happened.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the people hiding behind their longevity and put competent managers in the offices; you'd be surprised at how much more efficiently the organization will run, especially in a college town where there's an abundance of young, capable graduates.

I have been working at UF Health (Less than a year)

    Pros

The university of Florida/Shands Hospital at Gainesville, Florida is one of America's best hospitals and having said that is one of the top 15 best nephrology programs in the country.

    Cons

The nephology program accepts only 4 fellows each year. I my opinion given the size and the huge number of patients we see, the program should accept more fellows.

I have been working at UF Health part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

All specialties in house, prestige, some really great coworkers, CEUs paid for

    Cons

I have an associate's and they're going to fire me for not getting the BSN

    Advice to Management

Some of us old gals just want to work, not keep going back to school - the first nursing degree was hard enough to get, working full time, single mom, 2 young kids. At 45 I just don't have it in me to do that all again. I really loved this place but am being phased out in May because of the BSN. I tried the online programs but I just can't cut it.
