I worked at UK Power Networks (Less than a year)

    Pros

Salary was good to average, lots of long term employees considered it a job for life.

    Cons

Politics _if you fitted in you're fine

    Advice to Management

Use the competencies of the staff to get the best from people

    Pros

Great company which makes personal development of its own employees a priority - a concrete example of positive employee/employer engagement. Managerial staff at ever senior level are supportive and approachable.

    Cons

In my own experience I cannot think of any specific cons

I worked at UK Power Networks full-time

    Pros

Good bonus scheme, really cares about health and safety. Great people overall. Good working hours, family work balance.

    Cons

Management need to be more in touch with the people who do the work. HR is useless, whether it is dealing with a bullying complaint or completing routine paperwoek

    Advice to Management

    See above

I have been working at UK Power Networks full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very few opportunities for professional development. Management is living in its own world more caring about right procedures rather than people. Lessons learnt? Not in this company. Most of the time if there is a problem you can be sure none from the management team would help you. Whole reporting process looks like just to trick the owner (CKI) or Regulator.

    Cons

Good salary and benefits. Ideal for those who is about to retire.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking and self-presenting, start listening, watching and learning

I worked at UK Power Networks full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary good (But depends on position) . Pension Ok. Depot Locations and Building Facilities good.

    Cons

Senior management/ directors, not really interested in little guy problems (make out they are!). Owners CKI have culled there directors, then started on the managers> then engineers, etc.. etc... Mid management seem puppet like, wise perhaps in this current climate!! (but have no balls for resolving internal problems, and only really interested with there own future and pensions). Since Networks business buyout from EDF, takeover by CKI, the expected Chinese squeeze has caused constant internal disruption and reorganization for the worse, It has destroyed many relationships caused much internal bitterness and sought to rid/release over 700 staff in the last five years! OTT bean counting mentality. Company more interested in power rule / hovering about with vulture like mentality!! Poor financial support with over stretched personnel resources in engineering. Lack of foresight departmentally and across business, Poor engineering training and mentoring generally. Some power hungry staff. Some financially greedy staff.

    Advice to Management

SPN/ LP/ EPN networks (UKPN) should be owned and run by a British company. CKI should be ashamed of themselves! CKI was the worst choice ever for a buyout They will never truly support there staff as its not in there culture to do so (oppressive rulers).

I worked at UK Power Networks full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Really interesting projects
Some of the new younger engineers are fantastic and really good to work with.
Trying to make changes in systems and processes which is a good step forward

    Cons

Poor middle management in general although i would say Basil Scarsella is an excellent CEO.
The implementation of the new systems and processes had not gone well.

    Advice to Management

Keep getting rid of management who refuse to change

Be more open and honest to staff.
