Pros
I'm fairly new at the company but so far so great! From what I can tell, the company offers employees abundant opportunity and an environment that encourages success. The team I work with frequently provides positive reinforcement on all projects and tasks. It's a very pleasant workplace, all the hallway pleasantries make me look forward to daily interaction with colleagues. I've been around our President, Scott Scherr, a few times and he is such a humble and inspiring president whose principals are carried through to all levels of the organization. The Vice President and all directors of my department are excellent leaders whom I greatly admire. Additionally they are very approachable and encourage the collaboration and prosperity of all team members. Most people in my department have been there for over 5 years and many have been there for more than 10! Ultimate Software has countless perks and is good at finding new and creative ways to reward employees. Some of my favorite perks include the 30% matching of 401ks, 100% coverage of medical and dental insurance, charitable participation's, massages on-site, and ice cream truck visits! I love this company! Ultimate Software goes above and beyond in efforts to improve employee and community life!
Cons
Since the company culture is so positive and relaxed that some people may have more of a tendency to take advantage of that and be less productive.

Good company and benefits but it is changing

It is a good company with great benefits.
Cons
Ultimate Software had a name for a reason as one of the best companies to work for. But the landscape here has changed recently, especially, after the merger with Kronos and the departure of the original leadership.

Benefits are amazing and they promote work life balances.
Cons
Merger between Ultimate Software and Kronos still isn't fully complete and you hear Legacy company quite often.

This ship is sinking!
Mar 10, 2023 - Software Engineer in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good benefits are still intact for now. Lots of awesome people working in engineering (also for now)
Cons
New management since Ultimate Software and Kronos merger is out of touch and losing everything that made people working at this company feel special. Execs and high level managers are expert gaslighters and layoffs and re-orgs are the name of the game right now. Profits are being put above everything else at this point in time and it’s clear this is not sustainable long term with the complexity and tech debt currently existing. Anxiety is running high throughout the company and higher ups respond with screams and shouts of get in line or get going.

Ultimate Software has a friendly and warm work environment. It provides opportunity for women who are returning to work after staying home with kids. I am so excited to start this new adventure in life and with the work/life balance, it has been an easy transition back into the work force. If there is ever a family issue, my manager is always take care of family first. This attitude makes me strive to work harder because they support me so strongly.
Cons
At this time, I cannot find true cons for this company. They feed us often so I believe I have gained 5 pounds. :-)

Best Company to Work For
Jan 16, 2015 - Payment Services Support Coordinator in Los Angeles, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Ultimate Software puts its employees first. They provide training, support and a family atmosphere to work in. They take care of us by providing insurance, 401K, and stock options. Our CEO. Scott Scherr, is one of the most caring, sharing men I know. He is very down to earth and easy to talk to. I feel very fortunate to be an Ultimate Software employee and to be working in such a great atmosphere..
Cons
Growing too fast! Require additional space in California

Pros
- Kept benefits during the merger - Many wonderful direct peers
Cons
Ultimate software used to be exceptional in many regards and it all started with the CEO and Chief People Officer. When they left - all went downhill. Leaders that took over legacy Ultimate are way over their head - lack strategic foresight - and as issues are brought up have an attitude of 'Too bad, it is the way it is'. This trickles down and leads the organization to be reactive and overbearing. If you want to grow your career and be in an innovative and creative environment, this is not it.

They ruined it
Jun 28, 2021 - Support Solutions Specialist in Atlanta, GARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good health insurance and 401k But they might take that away eventually
Cons
Ultimate software merged with Kronos after we were both acquired by a private equity firm but it was not a merge it was a takeover. Ultimate software was great but nothing is left of it now. Everyone left who had the employees interest at heart. Now all the leadership is old white New England men who went to Ivy League schools who only care about profit. They project this image and say they are still progressive and put employees first but it is all a fake image for good PR. They gave the Juneteenth holiday to the mostly white upper management and made the most diverse and least paid area of the company work without pay. So they basically made people of color work for free and gave white ppl Juneteenth off. All while bragging about how they support diversity by giving employees the day as a holiday. There is no diversity in leadership. They private equity firm that bought us wants to squeeze every dollar of profit out so they can take us back public and get a pay day. But what made ultimate so successful and profitable is that they TOOK CARE of their employees and listened and valued everyone the same. Now unless you come from old money and are the top they want you to work your life away for nothing. It now feels like working for a very strict buttoned up corporation stuck in the 70s , not a fun, supportive, inclusive and diverse work environment where people are excited to be there. People are leaving in droves and having sick outs because the culture is so horrible now.

Pros
Unlimited PTO (not sure if this will last), 45% 401k matching, 100% of benefits paid
Cons
Ultimate Software was a great company led by its founders and that showed exceptional care for its employees. In 2020, it was sold to a private equity firm, and shortly thereafter merged with Kronos. The company culture of care for its employees has slowly eroded since the private equity deal took place. The company recently laid off 200 people with no warning. Those people simply lost access to all company systems and couldn't even say goodbye to their colleagues, sometimes colleagues of many years. An increasing share of work is being completed in India, presumably because the private equity firm wants to increase profit by reducing labor costs. However, this creates a big lag in collaboration due to time zone differences. Ultimate Software has now morphed into just another company that does not care about its employees. If you're looking for a company that demonstrates exceptional regard for its employees, I recommend you look elsewhere.
