I have been working at UM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent number of vacation days right out of the gate (if you can manage to use them!)

    Cons

Most of the other negative reviews summed it up. Essentially it comes down to long hours, understaffed teams, low pay, low morale, little opportunity to work on different accounts, clueless management. If you've worked at another agency before you might think "those are all pretty standard to ad agency life." Having worked at multiple other agencies, I can say that UM SF takes the cake. Congrats UM SF, you win at losing.

If you're looking to work at UM SF, do yourself a favor and filter reviews only for the SF office. You'll see that the positive reviews are not only generic and vague, but they only follow very bad reviews. Seems fishy...

    Advice to Management

The very generic positive reviews that you post immediately after a particularly bad review is pretty transparent. Do more to fix the problem directly rather than trying to cover it up on a review site.

Do NOT keep doing what you're doing. It's clearly not working from a business or personnel perspective. UM SF obviously isn't the agency it used to be, so you can't keep running it the same way.

Pay your employees a more competitive salary and staff the teams more appropriately. You're losing your best talent to other agencies and publishers because people are burning out. I know the bottom line is important, but losing employees doesn't exactly help either. Your reputation in the SF ad community is a joke.

    Pros

Come in at 9 and leave at 5 with an hour for lunch

    Some perks: occasional free food

    Cons

    Small pay

    Not much room for growth

    Advice to Management

    Raises every year

I have been working at UM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company for account work depending on which client you are assigned to.

    Cons

Some investment teams are integrated between mediums and some are completely separate.

    Advice to Management

Training programs need to be regimented and mandatory for new team members. Training is left up to the discretion of each account lead and is not always standardized which leaves for error and low standards

I have been working at UM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Highly collaborative environment. Great partnership with clients to do really interesting work. Good variety of category experience, and management does try to rotate people on different accounts. It's clear that a lot of effort is put towards maintaining a strong culture. Good work/life balance as compared to some other agencies (cough - sweat shops).

    Cons

Needs another big new biz win, but with the current momentum it should be right around the corner!

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing the idea that our work should be both innovative and inspiring. Do another round of MomentUM training!

    Advice to Management

    Pros

The people here are amazingly collaborative, passionate, smart and fun to be around. People genuinely care about doing great work as well as each other! The senior team is smart and never too busy to help/mentor others.

    Cons

From my experience all agencies have the same types of issues - tough clients, long hours, and a business that changes constantly. This place has some of those same challenges. But it makes it a lot better that I love my co-workers!

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing!

I have been working at UM (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great entry job post-college
    - Leadership is super smart, talented, and as long as you work hard, show up, and be a team player, you are very likely to consistently move up and get promoted
    - Benefits were great but entry agency jobs are definitely on the lower end of the spectrum

    Cons

    - Huge and very corporate (if that's important to you)
    - Like any other agency, you have to pay your dues by sticking within your own department to really move up and earn more

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

Everybody was so welcoming and were willing to help you learn! They definitely try to get you involved in projects from the beginning and treat you as a part of the team.

    Cons

There are a lot of tasks that are more tedious that interns will usually complete.

    Advice to Management

I like the free breakfast on Fridays!

I worked at UM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most people at UM are amazing and that's the best part of it that you will make friendships. Senior management are helpful, caring, empathetic and look out for their employees.

    Cons

Change is the the only constant. If you like change you'll fir right in, otherwise not so much. HR sucks.

    Advice to Management

Keep being friendly. Offer more competitive salaries.
