I have been working at UM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Wonderful brands to work on
-Great work/life balance in remote offices

    Cons

-No team structure or share of work for newer clients
-No room for growth in remote offices
-No raises have been given to lower-level employees in a few years
-Most people on a CPG brand have to move to other brands to get promoted, etc.

    Advice to Management

I encourage UM management to lead their teams and learn all aspects of what they do so work isn't burdened on one person's shoulders. UM leadership needs to allow for growth in their smaller and remote offices, encourage employees to expand their knowledge beyond what they do and show them how to get there.

I have been working at UM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great first job to give you an overview of the media world. The environment is young and fun, you'll always get free food almost every other day. There are a lot of recent grads, so it's easy to make friends.

    Cons

There's a lack of organization within the team with little to no guidance. You really need to take matters into your own hand and learn. There's almost little to no room for growth within the teams and company and your managers aren't really looking out for you rather than keeping you in your role for their own benefit.

    Advice to Management

There should be a way for employees to rate their managers, because there are a lot of upper managers that really take advantage of their seniority.

I worked at UM full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice looking office
    Good amount of days off
Health and Dental is standard at about $100/m

    Cons

There are no processes in place. Proper account records are not kept. Everything is completely unorganized..... They say you can sit anywhere you like- which is "technically" true, but you will be pressured by your manager to sit where your team sits. And if you dont, then you will be isolated from the team.

There are no childish "writeups" or reprimands. Staying to 8pm EVERY NIGHT wont be appreciated, and you can get fired OUT OF THE BLUE.

Certain managers at some levels can fire employees with no real reasoning, so if you get on someone's bad side- kiss your job goodbye.
No work-life-balance. I stayed till almost 8 every night and that wasnt appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Get proper processes in place. This company is to big to be "winging" anything. Organize proper feedback.
And require managers to have REAL verifiable reasons to fire employees.

    Pros

Lots of PTO, laid back atmosphere and management does not micromanage, typically working with pleasant people for the most part

    Cons

I worked at UM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good physical location, exposure to media, early responsibility, sometimes a fun atmosphere.

    Cons

Upper management is a closed club and turnover is very high below that club. If you don't have a champion you won't move up and will be in hamster in the wheel. Your manager must be in the club or you have to kiss up to someone to really advance.

Not a lot of clarity when it comes to growth within the company. No clear cut plan or update on promotions. A lot of late nights.
