I worked at UMB Financial Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Training program is very helpful

    Cons

Unprofessional supervisors, team-leads and managers. Pay not that good. Odd shift hours. in all departments. Call center hours often required you to start your shift at 10am and work til 7pm.

    Advice to Management

Why are younger people advancing more quickly than senior reps?

I have been working at UMB Financial Corporation (More than a year)

    Pros

Awesome company benefits package, good entry-level job for recent college grad, located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, peers are friendly.

    Cons

Lack of formal training (but strick performance criteria), below market compensation, smaller organization (in Milwaukee), lack of diversity and inclusion, out-dated technology, overwhelming workload when turnover is high for fund accountants

    Advice to Management

Invest in your fund accountants growth and development. It is good for the clients, company and the employee.

I have been working at UMB Financial Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly, relaxed work environment. Everyone is very willing to help a new employee. The work environment is stress-free 99% of the time. One's work load will be very consistent, especially as a new employee.

    Cons

Tasks are extremely repetitive. Day to day duties will not vary. The job becomes very stagnant after one develops the initial skills. Technology will likely make role less relevant in the future. The work can make one feel as if they are cog in a machine. Very little room to separate oneself. There is not enough work, lots of down time depending upon one's fund load.

    Advice to Management

Focus upon streamlining the processes. There is absolutely no need to have so many fund accountants. Better software would easily cut the number of accountants needed by a 1/3.

I have been working at UMB Financial Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Work/life balance: I've worked for some othert financial services companies and UMBFS allows you to leave your work at work, and also depending on position you get 21 days of PTO (very generous)
-Some very friendly and smart people
-I'd say pay is at or slightly above market
-Brand new offices in Schlitz Park are very nice (bar/restaurant downstairs)
-Since its growing so fast you have many opportunities to make a name for yourself amoungst senior leaders

    Cons

-Corporate culture doesnt really exist. While there are certainly younger employees who like to do extra curricular activities, most people come in, do their job, and go home.
-Technology is lacking. The amount of saving, emailing, troubleshooting, and checking various reports by hand is astounding.

    Advice to Management

We've been hearing that technology is being invested in at an enterprise level, but nothing about how it will be distributed and/or gauged. Establish some metrics and some concrete timelines so the employees can understand where/when these new technologies will be established.

I have been working at UMB Financial Corporation full-time

    Pros

Decent Benefits, okay work/life balance, okay pay, the pay is okay, but could be better considering the headaches. Lots of growth, decent room to grow with the company as a whole

    Cons

Lack of updated technology, lack of enough working printers for a mutual fund accounting department of our size. Technological demands not met in comparison to growth. Internet and network is basically a glorified cable connection shared by well over 200 employees.

    Advice to Management

Take technological demands seriously and make some improvements

I have been working at UMB Financial Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at UMB fund services has been one of the least stressful job environments I've been in. There is room to grow quickly, as it took about a year for a promotion.

    Cons

The biggest downside is the pay, it is definitely on the low side of the market norms.

    Pros

    Cons

difficult to get promoted beyond a certain point. The old guard stayed in place.

    Advice to Management

    keep investing in people.

    Pros

Honestly, there are not a lot of good reasons. The 2008 Employee Satisfaction Survey showed another year of generally dismally unhappy employees. Less than 40% said they would recommend a friend or family member to work at UMB. There is always a big flurry of activity right after the survey comes out - management talking about the changes, etc. but very little actually gets done to improve the situation. The best I can come up with is that they do offer some flexibility for work life balance.

    Cons

Where to begin?! As a regional midwestern bank, the firm's footprint is small, and name recognition for some of their businesses that they try to market nationally just falter because of their low name recognition.

    Advice to Management

show more respect for your employees - not just lip-service.
