I have been working at UMass Memorial Health Care part-time

    Pros

I enjoy working with my colleagues they are caring and helpful. I truly enjoy going to work. This opportunity has expanded my knowledge.

    Cons

There are not always enough hours for per diem. However, people are often open to swapping shifts. I enjoy working here.

    Advice to Management

I believe I work in a respectful environment, however some RN’s can be demanding. PCA’s should be given respect for their hard work.

I worked at UMass Memorial Health Care full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with were great.

    Cons

No salary increases for the 7 years I was there while the executives made on average 70% increases year to year. Work load exponentially increased but compensation did not and staff did not.

    Advice to Management

Your pay for performance business model does not work. It was more along the lines of exceed previous performance and an empty promise for salary increases quoting "there is no money for raises because the business was not profitable enough to afford it. Yet the between 2013 and 2014, Eric Dickerson, received a 75% raise in salary to $1.5 million. Take better care of your employees.

I worked at UMass Memorial Health Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Getting time off is easy.

    Cons

There is little to no direction. The department is poorly run. The women in this department are full of drama.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time figuring out what you want your employees to do.

I have been working at UMass Memorial Health Care full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits and pay are really good, and there is generous amounts of PTO time in addition to observing several holidays depending on your position and union affiliation.

    Cons

Lots of micromanaging which is completely unnecessary. We know our daily job responsibilities yet we get constant daily reminders. Management doesn't listen or communicate. Morale has really gone down. Management does not respect or trust employees.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees some credit and trust that they will do their job without the micromanaging. Take the time to listen to your employees. Show some respect. Don't be so condescending and rude.

    Pros

    Great benefits, and great co-workers

    Cons

You're doing all that you can just keep pushing

I have been working at UMass Memorial Health Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I work with a great staff and a good manager. I can always ask questions and receive the answer I need.

    Cons

The acuity of the floors is very high. They are refusing to give overtime to anyone even if they are willing to come and help. So we can be short staffed. And being short staffed with heavy patients is quite a burden.
