I have been working at UNC Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

3 credit hours free college classes/semester, 5 years vested retirement, state benefit package

    Cons

Parking at the Main Campus is terrible. UNC requires all the ICU RNs to rotate dayshift & nightshift, and most of the floors do the same. After 12 months this becomes exhausting a leading cause of RNs moving to smaller institutions. UNC also comes with all the positives & negatives of being a state's flagship teaching hospital.

I worked at UNC Health full-time

    Pros

    State benefits and free parking.

    Cons

    - Extreme lack of diversity when it comes to the faculty within the UNC Health Foundation. It became clear during my time there that a lot of the departments take a liking to a certain type of demographic with similar viewpoints. - Tolerance of inappropriate behavior from younger employees seems to be ongoing. I witnessed co-workers act unkindly towards other employees in an effort to isolate them from the team. Gossiping and other non-work related distractions seemed to be ongoing there. - Expectations to volunteer weekends on an ongoing basis for fundraising events seemed inconsistent with job role requirements and created an unhealthy level of competition among employees.

Current Employee - Physical Therapist in Chapel Hill, NC

I have been working at UNC Health full-time

    Pros

Working for a large hospital organization means that you don't have to worry about getting enough referrals or marketing to the general public. Outpatient treatments are 1-1 with the average length being 45 min per session. Great healthcare plan for employees and overall good benefits. Good on boarding program for new employees.

    Cons

Minimal documentation time included in your daily schedule. Overall the hospital doesn't seem to value physical therapy as much as other hospital systems I've worked at which is disappointing. Salary is low. There is a big push for productivity and a focus on numbers rather than quality/complexity of treatments, as is the trend with PT unfortunately.
