I worked at UNC School of Medicine part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working as a research assistant at the UNC School of Medicine was a very fulfilling experience. My lab provided an environment where I could learn new skills and gain hands-on research experience while getting paid as an undergraduate.

    Cons

At times, I was unsure where or when I was needed in the lab since I was only capable of performing low-skill duties.

I worked at UNC School of Medicine full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Mix of education, research and clinical missions are very interesting and fulfilling. Most faculty and staff are highly knowledgeable and experienced experts. Advancing medical research and education, what's not to love?

    Cons

As a public institution, the state government plays a large role in our purchasing and staffing decisions and strategies. It takes a while to get things done, though better than many large orgs I've worked with, and they have several improvement processes currently in progress. Staff raises and salaries are controlled heavily by the state budget and this can be a major challenge for Sr. Leadership in terms of being a competitive employer.
