I worked at UNICEF full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Organizational mission - Diversity of workforce - True impact - Ability to live abroad - Impressive and committed leadership team

    Cons

    - Short term contracts - Required to move frequently and difficulty to move up within the organization - Requires commitment to a certain lifestyle - bureaucracy

    Advice to Management

There should be a more bottom up approach to determining strategies that effect the organization as a whole, and specifically staff in the field.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at UNICEF full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

At the core the work done by UNICEF is beneficial to the developing country population. There is job satisfaction that you are in someway affecting positive change. Great benefits - 6 weeks vacation; 6 month maternity leave; paternity leave; etc.

    Cons

    - Limited ability to move upward - especially from the general service category to the professional category

    Advice to Management

Currently, management frequently do not appraise their staff for good work done - causes many staff to become demotivated and leave the organization.

    Cons

Great place to work with various people from many races, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of the project, as well as capacity building and facilitation for stakeholders.

    Advice to Management

Need to give more opportunities to Asian people to work in UNICEF Head Quarter based on experiences and backgrounds of working in the national or local projects.
