Excellent colleagues with high motivation, work that matters and can impact people's lives, the new ED is proactively initiating strategies for work-life balance, support to personal development and learnings, multi-cultural work place

I have been working at UNICEF full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

rewarding work, very nice people to work with, good benefits if you are staff, work-life balance

    Cons

Management has no accountability for their bad decisions and foreseeable mistakes. There are senior managers who do not know how to hire and manage people, let alone retain the talent they have. I have seen nepotism over and over again in the 3 years I have been in the organization.

I worked at UNICEF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Salary is very attractive and excellent benefits for staff

    Cons

Even though UNICEF always likes to promote healthy work/life balance they never expect it from you. Work environment is HIGHLY political Staff act as if donors are gods and literally bow down to their every word AND how dare you try to make new suggestions that could possibly further development. Sometimes I wonder if these so called donors actually want to help poor countries succeed and be more... independent. Lots of spending on development projects takes place every year but little results are achieved and senior level management don't seem to have (or fail to act on) real solutions.

I have been working at UNICEF

    Pros

Great work/life balance, diverse environment, great location (New York office), amazing mission.

    Cons

Old style type of management. Consultants are not fairly treated in comparison with staff. No benefits. UNICEF does not provide W2 form to file taxes for consultants. If you are an independent contractor you might have to re-consider you salary because of the extreme high taxes you will have to pay.
