I have been working at UPM-Kymmene full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast decision making, team orientated no politics atmosphere. Best practices sharing is encouraged, Easy intranet communication between different units worldwide. Affordable benefit package includes health insurance, dental 401k, life insurance. Good relations between management and union labor.

    Cons

Sometimes too fast decision making; if bottom line stays red too long, the operation unit will be closed down. However, employees are treated decent and means provided to find new opportunities

I worked at UPM-Kymmene (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good and friendly staff and good benefits. Growing company in the field of contract manufacturing.

    Cons

Growing fast using traditional management structure. Some departments are combined and overlapping of responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

To be effective some departments may need to separate as the business grows so it can serve clients in a more efficient manner.

    I worked at UPM-Kymmene full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Really smart, hard-working employees in a challenging global environment.

    Cons

Declining industry revenues have led to several years of cost-cutting by the global part in Finland. Many of the hard workers do not get appropriate recognition (either monetary or non-monetary) for all their .

    Advice to Management

Only a few employees there seem to keep get rewarded year-after-year. Spread out the recognition to others who are also working hard every day.

    Pros

Global presence, global approach to industry.

    Cons

Hubris on the part of Finnish managment. Assume that best practices in Europe would also apply to North America without alloting for customer and employee preferences. Some management team members are in over their head.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Hours aren't bad. Some of the bosses are a little demanding.

    Cons

There main office is in Finland so you get very little say in how processes are run. Basically have to do everything there way even if it doesn't make sense locally.

    Advice to Management

Management is doing a good job and always looking ahead.

    Pros

Get enironment for learning new skills and working with different types of instrumentation. Client contracts allow for different types of drug testing than a stand alone commerical facility would provide. Great staff to work with

    Cons

Not enough time provided to complete all assigned tasks for work. Employee's work long hours (they are compensated) but you will never have a point were you feel as though you are caught up with work.

    Advice to Management

Get more employees to help with work load
